Taurus Venus and Capricorn Venus Compatibility: Earth by Venus, Air by the Likeliest Suns

Taurus Venus and Capricorn Venus compatibility looks like the easy case. The two signs share the earth element and sit four signs apart, a link called a trine. The old books read it as smooth. But the Sun signs behind this couple point somewhere else. The likeliest pair of Suns is Gemini with Aquarius, two air signs. Both Suns are earth signs in only one couple in 18. We measured every hour from 1600 to 2400 to find that out.

This guide shows how common each Venus is, which Sun signs come with it, and how the tradition ranks Venus in each sign. Read it as a lens, not a forecast. Astrology is not a science, and no study has shown that a Venus sign predicts how a couple does.

The pair in plain words

Your Venus sign is the sign Venus stood in when you were born. Astrologers read it as your style of love: what draws you, what you value and how you show care. It is not the Sun sign you read in a horoscope. This page is about two people, one with Venus in Taurus and one with Venus in Capricorn.

Taurus is the second sign and Capricorn the tenth. Count the short way round and you get four signs, or 120 degrees. That angle is a trine, the smoothest link in the old scheme. Both are earth signs, a group of three that also holds Virgo. In the tradition, earth is the element of the body, work, money and things that last.

The two signs differ in mode. Taurus is fixed, which means it sits in the middle of a season, here spring. It keeps things going. Capricorn is cardinal, which means it opens a season, here winter. It starts things and sets the frame. Among all 78 Venus pairs, no other one is an earth trine between a fixed sign and a cardinal sign.

What the evidence says first

A fair warning comes before any chart talk. The largest test of zodiac love signs came from the sociologist David Voas. His 2007 paper, Ten Million Marriages, used the 2001 census of England and Wales. He compared the birth dates of more than ten million married couples. No Sun-sign pair married more or less than chance would give. The few odd peaks came from errors in the data.

Voas tested Sun signs only. No one has run a test like that for Venus signs, as far as we know. So what follows gives two people words for how they love. It cannot tell them whether they will last.

The second most common Venus meets the rarest

Venus is a fast planet. It crosses a sign in about four weeks. About every 19 months, it seems to move backward for some six weeks, a phase called a retrograde. That loop makes Venus stay longer in some signs than in others.

Venus repeats its path in an eight-year cycle, so a short window can skew the count. To smooth out those loops, we used eight full centuries.

Venus sign Share of all time, 1600 to 2400 Rank out of twelve.
Venus in Taurus 8.59 percent Second of the twelve.
Venus in Capricorn 8.04 percent Last of the twelve.
Most common: Venus in Cancer 8.62 percent First of the twelve.

So this pair joins one of the most common Venus signs with the rarest one. The gap is still small. Both sit close to one in twelve, and no Venus sign is truly rare.

Now pick two people at random. What are the odds that one has Venus in Taurus and the other Venus in Capricorn? The pair can form two ways, so you double the product of the two shares. The answer is 1.38 percent, or one couple in 72. That ranks 37th of the 78 pairs, right in the middle.

Which Sun signs come with each Venus

Seen from Earth, Venus never strays far from the Sun. The widest gap in eight centuries was 47.3 degrees. A sign is 30 degrees wide. So Venus sits in the Sun’s own sign, in one of the two next to it, or at the edge of the sign after those. Each Venus sign allows just five Sun signs.

Venus sign Sun signs it allows, with their share.
Venus in Taurus Gemini 29.9, Aries 28.7, Taurus 24.0, Cancer 8.7 and Pisces 8.7 percent.
Venus in Capricorn Aquarius 29.0, Sagittarius 28.8, Capricorn 23.2, Scorpio 9.6 and Pisces 9.4 percent.

Look at the two lists. Each holds only one earth sign: its own. Virgo is out of reach for both. And the two lists touch in one place only, Pisces, at the far edge of each range. So the partners share a Sun sign only if both are Pisces. That happens in 0.81 percent of these couples, about one in 123.

Pisces is a fitting meeting point. It is the sign where the tradition says Venus is exalted, her place of highest honor.

Earth by Venus, air by the likeliest Suns

Here is the thesis of this page. Venus in Taurus comes with a Gemini Sun more than any other, at 29.9 percent. Venus in Capricorn comes with an Aquarius Sun more than any other, at 29.0 percent. Gemini and Aquarius are both air signs, and they sit four signs apart. So the likeliest Sun pair is a Gemini Sun with an Aquarius Sun, at 8.7 percent of these couples. It is a trine too, but in air.

Likeliest Sun pairs for this couple Share of these couples.
Gemini Sun with Aquarius Sun, an air trine 8.7 percent of couples.
Gemini Sun with Sagittarius Sun, an opposition 8.6 percent of couples.
Aries Sun with Aquarius Sun, a sextile 8.3 percent of couples.
Aries Sun with Sagittarius Sun, a fire trine 8.3 percent of couples.
Ninth place: Taurus Sun with Capricorn Sun, an earth trine 5.6 percent of couples.

The earth trine by Sun comes only ninth. Both Suns are earth signs in just 5.6 percent of these couples, about one in 18. In the other 17, at least one partner has a Sun in air, fire or water. So the earth link lives in Venus far more than in the Sun.

We also sorted every couple by the angle between their two Suns. A trine leads at 25.0 percent. A quincunx, five signs apart, follows at 24.5 percent. Then come the square at 18.9, the opposition at 13.0 and the sextile at 12.6 percent. Next-door Suns come to 5.2 percent, and the same Sun sign to 0.8 percent.

A Taurus and Capricorn by Sun sign is not this couple

Many readers land here because they are a Taurus and a Capricorn by Sun sign. Does that make them this Venus pair? Most of the time, no.

A Taurus Sun has Venus in Taurus 24.4 percent of the time. A Capricorn Sun has Venus in Capricorn 23.2 percent of the time. Both must hold at once, which happens in about 5.6 percent of Taurus and Capricorn Sun couples, or one in 18. The Sun pair is a separate reading, and our page on Taurus and Capricorn by Sun sign covers it.

Seen from the Venus side, 41.7 percent of these couples have at least one partner with Venus in their own Sun sign. In the other 58.3 percent, neither partner does. Venus in Taurus: the planet at home

The old books rank each planet by the sign it stands in. The rank is called dignity. In the Tetrabiblos, written around 150 AD, Ptolemy gives Venus two homes: Taurus and Libra. A planet in its home, or domicile, works at full strength. It has its own tools at hand.

Modern writers such as Liz Greene read this Venus as love through the senses. It likes touch, good food, loyalty and time. It builds slowly and keeps what it builds. Our guide to Venus in Taurus covers it in full.

Venus in Capricorn: small ranks, not none

Capricorn belongs to Saturn. Venus does not rule it, is not exalted there and does not fall there. So she holds no major rank in this sign. But she is not empty-handed. She owns the slice from 14 to 22 degrees, a small rank called the terms.

She holds one more rank, and it matters for this pair. In chapter 18 of Book I, Ptolemy splits the signs into four groups of three, one per element. Each group has rulers, a rank later called triplicity. For the earth group of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, he names Venus and the Moon, with Venus ruling by day. So Venus has a claim on every earth sign when the Sun is above the horizon at birth.

That is why our guide to Venus in Capricorn calls this Venus not weak, just lightly ranked. Stephen Arroyo and other modern writers read it as love shown through effort, time and proof. It commits with care and plans for the long run.

So the trine joins Venus at full strength with a Venus of modest rank. Both sit in the one element Venus rules by day. That shared ground is the classical case for this pair.

What Ptolemy says about the trine

In Book I, chapter 13, Ptolemy names the aspects. He calls the trine and the sextile harmonious, because they join signs of the same kind. The square and the opposition he calls clashing. By his scheme, the Taurus and Capricorn trine joins two earth signs of the same gender, both feminine.

Ptolemy adds other links in chapters 14 and 15: signs that command and obey, and signs that behold each other through equal days. Taurus and Capricorn share neither. Their bond rests on the trine and the shared element.

Is the trine exact in degrees?

Two Venuses four signs apart can be anywhere from 90 to 150 degrees apart. The trine is exact at 120 degrees. The allowed gap around it is called the orb. We measured it with the real spread of Venus inside each sign, over eight centuries.

Orb allowed Couples with an exact trine.
Within 3 degrees 19.0 percent of couples.
Within 6 degrees 36.0 percent of couples.
Within 8 degrees 46.3 percent of couples.
Within 10 degrees 55.6 percent of couples.

These values are close to the same for every Venus pair, so they are not special to this one. The twist is at the edge. With an 8 degree orb, 3.5 percent of these couples form a square in degrees instead. Say Venus sits at 28 degrees of Taurus and at 2 degrees of Capricorn. The gap is 94 degrees. By sign it is a trine. In the sky it is a square.

Reading the pair the old way

Nothing below has been tested. It is how the tradition reads this match.

  • Shared earth. Both love through deeds: a meal made, a bill paid, a promise kept.
  • Keep and start. Capricorn opens the plan. Taurus keeps it running.
  • Pace. Neither rushes. Trust builds slowly on both sides and then holds.
  • Money. Both value security. They can build a lot together, and they can argue about who controls it.
  • Warmth. Taurus leads with touch and comfort. Capricorn leads with duty. Each can ask the other for more of its own style.

Take this reading as an invitation to talk about how each partner shows care. It is not a verdict on the couple.

How we measured it

We used two separate methods over the years 1600 to 2400, with every moment weighted the same. The first found each moment Venus and the Sun changed sign, to a tenth of a second, with the astronomy-engine library. It then added up the time exactly. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris and placed Venus once an hour on a grid shifted by 30 minutes, for 7,012,656 moments in all. The two methods agree to within 0.01 points on every Venus figure here.

Pair odds treat two people as born at unrelated moments. Sun pairs and Sun angles combine each partner’s Sun-sign shares from the table above. Ptolemy is cited from the Loeb edition by Frank Robbins, Book I, chapters 13 to 18.

Questions about Taurus and Capricorn Venus

Are Venus in Taurus and Venus in Capricorn compatible?

By the old grid, they form an earth trine, the smoothest link between two signs. Venus rules the earth signs by day, which ties both Venuses to the same element. No study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple does.

Can a Venus in Taurus and a Venus in Capricorn share a Sun sign?

Only if both partners are Pisces Suns. That happens in about 0.81 percent of these couples, or one in 123.

What Sun signs do these couples have most?

The likeliest pair is a Gemini Sun with an Aquarius Sun, at 8.7 percent of these couples. Both Suns are earth signs in only 5.6 percent, about one couple in 18.

Is Venus weak in Capricorn?

Not by the old books. She holds no major rank there, but she owns the terms from 14 to 22 degrees and rules the earth signs by day. In Taurus she is at home, her strongest seat.

How common is a Taurus Venus and Capricorn Venus couple?

Over 1600 to 2400, about 1.38 percent of random couples, or one in 72. It ranks 37th of the 78 Venus pairs.
