Capricorn Venus and Capricorn Venus Compatibility: The Rarest of the 78 Venus Pairs

Capricorn Venus and Capricorn Venus compatibility is the rarest of all 78 Venus pairs. Pick two people at random, and both have Venus in Capricorn in about one couple in 155. No other pair of Venus signs, same or mixed, comes up less.

The margin is not huge, and this page shows why. It also shows the Sun signs behind the pair, what the old authors said about Venus in Saturn’s house, and how Ptolemy’s mirror rules treat a sign that stands at midwinter.

We tracked Venus and the Sun from 1600 to 2400 to put numbers on this pair. Read what follows as a lens for talking about love, not as a forecast. Astrology is not a science, and no study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple will do.

Why Capricorn is the rarest Venus sign

Your Venus sign is the sign Venus was in when you were born. In astrology it shows what you find lovely and how you like to be loved.

Venus does not spend equal time in each sign. About every 19 months, it seems to move backward for six weeks, which astrologers call retrograde. Where those loops land shifts the count. Venus repeats its path on an eight-year cycle, so a short span of years can skew the result. We used eight full centuries.

Venus sign Share of time, 1600 to 2400 Rank among twelve.
Venus in Cancer 8.62 percent First, the most common.
Even split 8.33 percent One sign in twelve.
Venus in Capricorn 8.04 percent Twelfth, the rarest.

One likely reason sits with the Sun. Venus never strays far from the Sun, as seen from Earth. Earth is closest to the Sun in early January, so the Sun seems to move fastest then. It crosses Capricorn in about 29.4 days, the shortest of its twelve stays. Venus follows the Sun around the sky, so on average it also gives Capricorn a little less time.

Still, 8.04 percent is close to one person in twelve. Rare here means last in a close race, not scarce.

The rarest of the 78 pairs

What is the chance that two people picked at random both have Venus in Capricorn? A same-sign pair can form only one way, so we square the share. The answer is 0.65 percent, or about one couple in 155. It ranks 78th of 78.

All twelve same-sign pairs sit at the bottom of the list. Two people rarely share any one sign, while a mixed pair can form two ways. So the real contest is among the twelve.

Same-sign Venus pair One couple in Rank among twelve.
Cancer and Cancer About 134 couples. Most common.
Aquarius and Aquarius About 150 couples. Tenth.
Scorpio and Scorpio About 152 couples. Eleventh.
Capricorn and Capricorn About 155 couples. Twelfth, the rarest.

From the most common twin pair to the rarest, the gap is about 15 percent. That is real: the order of the twelve Venus signs is the same in both of our methods. But it will not show up in your circle of friends.

The same sign is also the rarest by Sun. Our page on Capricorn and Capricorn compatibility by Sun sign counts about one US couple in 172. The Sun spends the fewest days in Capricorn, and US births dip in that season. The two counts measure different things, but the short Sun stay plays a part in both.

Venus in Saturn’s house, twice

The old authors gave each planet a rank in each sign. A home, or domicile, is a sign the planet rules. An exaltation is a sign where it is honored. The detriment and the fall are its weak places.

Capricorn gives Venus none of these major ranks. It is not her home, her exaltation, her detriment or her fall. She keeps two minor ranks. Ptolemy gave the earth signs to Venus by day and to the Moon by night. And by his table, Venus owns the first six degrees of Capricorn, a small band called her terms.

The house belongs to Saturn. Mars is exalted there, and Jupiter falls there. So each Capricorn Venus is a guest in Saturn’s house, with Mars as the guest of honor.

Partner Rank of Venus Who runs the sign.
First Capricorn Venus No major rank, two minor ones. Saturn, with Mars exalted.
Second Capricorn Venus No major rank, two minor ones. Saturn, with Mars exalted.

A rank is a label from old books, not a grade for a person. Our page on Venus in Capricorn explains why minor ranks are not the same as weakness.

The day and night split matters for both partners. In a day chart, a birth with the Sun above the horizon, Venus rules the earth triangle. At night, the Moon takes that role. So two partners born by day each hold that small share. Two born by night do not. Your birth time decides which.

One sign, and how close the two Venuses sit

Two Venuses in one sign form a conjunction by sign. Ptolemy’s chapter 13 lists four aspects: the opposition, the trine, the square and the sextile. The conjunction is not among them. Later authors, William Lilly among them, counted it as the closest bond of all.

But one sign spans 30 degrees. Two Venuses in Capricorn can sit anywhere from 0 to 30 degrees apart. The margin allowed around an exact aspect is called the orb. We used the real spread of Venus inside Capricorn to see how many couples come close.

Orb Couples with a true conjunction Reading.
3 degrees 19.00 percent About one in five.
6 degrees 36.00 percent About one in three.
8 degrees 46.22 percent Just under half.
10 degrees 55.55 percent Just over half.

So at an 8 degree orb, more than half of these couples share a sign without a close conjunction. The shared sign is still a bond in the tradition. The degree tells you how tight it is.

The midwinter sign, read two ways

Capricorn begins at the winter solstice, the shortest day in the north. Ptolemy called Cancer and Capricorn the tropical signs, the turning points of the Sun. That role shapes how his mirror rules treat Capricorn.

In chapter 15 of the first book, Ptolemy names signs that “behold” each other, or have equal power. When the Sun is in either one, the days have the same length. There are two ways to read this, and sites mix them up.

Read by whole signs, the pairs sit on either side of the turning signs. Robbins, the translator, lists them in his note 83: Gemini and Leo, Taurus and Virgo, Aries and Libra, Pisces and Scorpio, Aquarius and Sagittarius. Cancer and Capricorn have no partner. They are the turning points themselves.

Read by degrees, each degree mirrors another across the solstice line. Lilly calls these mirror points antiscia. On that reading, Capricorn mirrors Sagittarius. A Venus at 5 degrees Capricorn mirrors a point at 25 degrees Sagittarius.

So two Capricorn Venuses almost never mirror each other. It can only happen right at the start of the sign, near 0 degrees Capricorn. We counted that case in 0.5 percent of couples at a 3 degree orb, and 0.05 percent at 1 degree.

Ptolemy’s other links, “command and obey” and aversion, always join two different signs. They do not apply to a same-sign pair.

Which Sun signs sit behind a Capricorn Venus

We measured the widest gap between Venus and the Sun at 47.28 degrees, less than two signs. So a Capricorn Venus can only go with five Sun signs.

Sun sign Share of Capricorn Venus people Note.
Scorpio 9.60 percent Venus two signs ahead of the Sun.
Sagittarius 28.80 percent Venus one sign ahead.
Capricorn 23.21 percent Sun and Venus in one sign.
Aquarius 28.98 percent The largest group.
Pisces 9.41 percent Venus two signs behind.

In calendar terms, Capricorn Venus people are born between about October 23 and March 20. Fewer than one in four has a Capricorn Sun. Aquarius and Sagittarius Suns each outnumber them.

Now combine two partners. We multiplied the Sun sign shares and grouped the results. Order does not matter: a Sagittarius with an Aquarius counts once.

Sun pair Share of these couples Rank.
Sagittarius and Aquarius 16.69 percent First, about one couple in six.
Capricorn and Aquarius 13.45 percent Second.
Sagittarius and Capricorn 13.37 percent Third.
Aquarius and Aquarius 8.40 percent Fourth.
Sagittarius and Sagittarius 8.29 percent Fifth.
Capricorn and Capricorn 5.39 percent About one couple in 19.

So the likeliest face of this pair is a Sagittarius and an Aquarius. They share a Venus in the sign that lies between their two Suns. Two Capricorn Suns rank well down the list.

We grouped the Sun pairs by the angle between them. The two Suns sit in next-door signs in 37.81 percent of couples. They sit two signs apart, a sextile, in 25.52 percent. They share one sign in 23.89 percent, about one in four. A square comes in 10.98 percent. A trine, only a Scorpio Sun with a Pisces Sun, comes in 1.81 percent.

Two Capricorn Suns are a different couple

Many readers land here because both partners are Capricorn Suns. Does that make them this Venus pair? Not in most cases. Among Capricorn Venus people, 23.21 percent have a Capricorn Sun. Across all signs, Venus shares the Sun’s sign in 23.62 percent of birth moments. So for two Capricorn Suns, a double Capricorn Venus fits roughly one couple in 18.

Turn it around. In 41.04 percent of Capricorn Venus couples, at least one partner has Venus in their own Sun sign. That ranks 75th of the 78 pairs. In 5.39 percent, both do. A free birth chart shows your Venus sign. If Venus sits near the edge of a sign, the birth time can decide it.

How the tradition reads this couple

None of what follows has been tested. It is how the tradition reads the pair.

  • Shared ground. Both show love through what they build and keep. A plan followed through counts more than a speech.
  • Saturn in the room. Both Venuses answer to the same host. Time, limits and duty shape the romance.
  • The mirror. Each knows the other’s reserve, because it is their own.
  • The sore spot. Two careful people can both wait for the other to soften first.

A simple habit helps. Put one unhurried evening a week on the calendar, with no task attached. Guard it like any other deadline. For this pair, scheduled warmth is still warmth.

The tradition sees Saturn as the planet of what lasts. Read that way, this couple is slow to start and hard to shake. The shared sign gives them a shared pace.

The Moon shows emotional needs, a layer apart from Venus. Our page on Capricorn Moon and Capricorn Moon compatibility reads the sign through that layer. Next door, a Capricorn Venus meets its degree mirror in Sagittarius Venus and Capricorn Venus compatibility. On the other side, it meets the second house of Saturn in Capricorn Venus and Aquarius Venus compatibility.

Every pair of Venus signs is listed in our guide to Venus sign compatibility, sign by sign.

What the evidence says

The largest test of sign matches used the 2001 census of England and Wales. The sociologist David Voas looked at 10.3 million married couples. He found no effect of Sun signs on who marries whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors in the data. His paper, “Ten million marriages,” came out in 2007. It tested Sun signs only. No test of that size exists for Venus signs.

So a rare pair is not a special fate, and a shared sign is not a promise. This page shows the sky behind the label.

How we measured

We used two methods that share no code. The first used the Astronomy Engine library. It found each time Venus and the Sun entered a sign from 1600 to 2400, to a tenth of a second, and added up the time. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris. It checked the sign of Venus every hour, on a grid set half an hour off the first. That is more than seven million points. Neither method drew random numbers. On the Venus figures, the two agree within 0.01 points.

Pair odds assume two people born at unrelated moments. The Sun pair figures multiply each partner’s Sun sign shares. The degree figures use the real spread of Venus inside Capricorn, in steps of a tenth of a degree. All values use the tropical zodiac, seen from Earth. Ptolemy is quoted from the Loeb edition by Frank Robbins, Book I, chapters 13 to 19.

Frequently asked questions

Are two Venus in Capricorn partners compatible?

They share one sign, one element and one ruler, Saturn. At an 8 degree orb, 46.22 percent of these couples have a true conjunction. No study shows that Venus signs predict how a couple does.

Is Capricorn and Capricorn the rarest Venus pair?

Yes. Over 1600 to 2400, it comes up in about one couple in 155, or 0.65 percent. It ranks 78th of the 78 Venus pairs.

Why is Venus in Capricorn the rarest Venus sign?

Venus spends 8.04 percent of its time there, the lowest of the twelve. One likely reason: the Sun crosses Capricorn fastest, and Venus stays close to the Sun.

What Sun signs do two Capricorn Venus partners have?

The likeliest mix is a Sagittarius and an Aquarius, in 16.69 percent of these couples. Two Capricorn Suns make up 5.39 percent, about one couple in 19.

Does Capricorn “behold” another sign in Ptolemy?

By whole signs, no: Capricorn is a turning sign with no partner. By degrees, it mirrors Sagittarius across the winter solstice.
