Taurus Venus and Gemini Venus compatibility pairs a Venus at full strength with a Venus that has no rank at all. Venus rules Taurus, so it is at home there. Gemini belongs to Mercury, and Venus is only a guest in that sign.
The two signs sit side by side on the zodiac wheel. Yet the old rules gave them no bond. Ptolemy called signs one step apart disjunct, which means cut off from each other.
Then the Sun adds a twist. When we checked 800 years of sky, the likeliest Sun signs for this couple turned out to be Taurus and Gemini too. This page shows the odds, the Sun signs, and how close the two Venus points really sit. Read it as a lens, not a forecast. Astrology is not a science, and no study has shown that a sign predicts how a couple will do.
The pair at a glance
| Question | What we found. |
|---|---|
| How common is the pair? | About 1 random couple in 69, rank 4 of the 78 Venus pairs. |
| How far apart are the signs? | One sign, a gap called a semi-sextile. |
| Did Ptolemy link the two signs? | No, he gave them no tie of any kind. |
| Where is each Venus strong? | At home in Taurus, with no rank in Gemini. |
| Which Sun signs are most likely? | One Taurus Sun and one Gemini Sun, in about 1 couple in 7. |
| Do the partners share a Sun sign? | In about 1 couple in 5. |
A Venus at home next to a Venus on a visit
Each sign has a ruling planet. Think of it as the landlord of the sign. A planet in a sign it rules is at home and acts in its own way. A planet in another sign is a guest and takes on the tone of its host.
Venus rules Taurus and Libra. So a Taurus Venus answers to no one. The old books tie it to comfort, touch, patience and things that last. Our page on Venus in Taurus tells that side in full.
Mercury rules Gemini. Mercury is the planet of speech, trade and quick thought. So a Gemini Venus loves in the manner of Mercury. It courts with words, jokes and questions. Read Venus in Gemini for that side.
Astrologers call a planet with no major rank in a sign peregrine, a Latin word for a traveler. Venus is not at home in Gemini. It is not exalted there, the word for a sign of special honor. It is not in exile or in fall, the two weak ranks, either. It does hold a few degrees of Gemini as its terms, a minor share of rule. But it has no major rank.
| Question | Taurus Venus | Gemini Venus. |
|---|---|---|
| Who rules the sign? | Venus itself | Mercury. |
| What is the rank of Venus there? | Home, full strength | No major rank, a guest. |
| What element? | Earth | Air. |
| What mode? | Fixed, a sign that holds a season | Mutable, a sign that ends a season. |
| How much time does Venus spend there? | 8.59 percent, second of twelve | 8.46 percent, third of twelve. |
So the pair holds a clear imbalance. One Venus speaks in its own voice. The other speaks through Mercury. That is a rule about the planet, not about the person. A guest can be a charming one.
Neighbors with no bond, by the old rules
An aspect is an angle between two points on the wheel. Ptolemy wrote the Tetrabiblos in Alexandria around 150 AD. In Book I, chapter 13, he counted four aspects: the opposition, the trine, the square and the sextile. Signs one step apart form none of them.
He had two more ways to link signs. In chapter 14, signs that mirror each other across the spring point “command” and “obey.” In chapter 15, signs that mirror each other across the longest day “behold” each other. Those signs have days of equal length when the Sun is in them.
Taurus and Gemini get none of these ties. By whole signs, as in the notes of the translator Frank Robbins, Taurus commands Pisces and beholds Virgo, while Gemini commands Aquarius and beholds Leo. By exact degree, Taurus mirrors Aquarius and Leo, while Gemini mirrors Capricorn and Cancer. So in chapter 16, the pair falls among the signs he called disjunct, or alien, on either reading.
Modern astrologers do give the gap a name. They call it a semi-sextile, an angle of 30 degrees. Ptolemy did not use it. Most modern guides read it as two styles that must learn each other’s language.
The contrast runs on every level. Taurus is earth, and Gemini is air. Taurus holds the middle of spring, and Gemini closes it. Taurus counts as a feminine sign, and Gemini as a masculine one. Out of 78 Venus pairs, this is the only semi-sextile of earth and air where a fixed sign meets a mutable one.
The likeliest Suns are Taurus and Gemini too
Venus orbits inside the Earth’s path. From here, it never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun. So your Venus sign is your Sun sign or one of the four signs closest to it.
We turned that around. Among people with Venus in a given sign, which Sun signs do they have? The table gives the share for each one.
| Sun sign | People with Venus in Taurus | People with Venus in Gemini. |
|---|---|---|
| Pisces | 8.7 percent | None. |
| Aries | 28.7 percent | 8.3 percent. |
| Taurus | 24.0 percent | 29.1 percent. |
| Gemini | 29.9 percent | 24.0 percent. |
| Cancer | 8.7 percent | 30.0 percent. |
| Leo | None | 8.7 percent. |
Look at the middle rows. The most common Sun sign for a Taurus Venus is Gemini. The second most common Sun sign for a Gemini Venus is Taurus. The two ranges lean toward each other.
So we asked which pair of Sun signs turns up most in these couples. The answer is one Taurus Sun and one Gemini Sun. That mix covers 14.5 percent of the couples, about 1 in 7.
It can happen in two ways, and the odd way wins. In 5.8 percent of couples, each partner has Venus in their own Sun sign. In 8.7 percent, the Suns sit the other way round. The Taurus Venus belongs to a Gemini Sun, and the Gemini Venus belongs to a Taurus Sun.
| Most likely Sun pairs | Share of these couples. |
|---|---|
| One Taurus Sun and one Gemini Sun | 14.5 percent. |
| One Gemini Sun and one Cancer Sun | 11.1 percent. |
| One Aries Sun and one Taurus Sun | 10.3 percent. |
| One Taurus Sun and one Cancer Sun | 9.7 percent. |
| One Aries Sun and one Gemini Sun | 9.4 percent. |
Even the top mix covers only 1 couple in 7. So it is a lean, not a rule. Most of these couples have some other pair of Sun signs.
When the two share a Sun sign
Both partners can be Aries, Taurus, Gemini or Cancer Suns. Taken together, 19.2 percent of these couples share a Sun sign. That is about 1 couple in 5.
| Shared Sun sign | Share of these couples. |
|---|---|
| Both Gemini Suns | 7.2 percent. |
| Both Taurus Suns | 7.0 percent. |
| Both Cancer Suns | 2.6 percent. |
| Both Aries Suns | 2.4 percent. |
The Suns are one sign apart in 37.3 percent of these couples. They are two signs apart in 24.2 percent. They are never opposite. The widest gap is five signs, from a Pisces Sun to a Leo Sun, and it covers under 1 percent.
One more count. In 42.3 percent of these couples, at least one partner has Venus in their own Sun sign. That ranks fifth of the 78 pairs. Our Venus sign compatibility guide shows the other side of this link, from the Sun signs to the Venus signs.
How close are the two Venus points?
A sign is 30 degrees wide. So a Taurus Venus and a Gemini Venus can sit almost 0 degrees apart, or almost 60. By sign, every such couple has a semi-sextile. By degree, only some do.
Astrologers allow an orb, which is the miss they accept around an exact angle. Here is the share of couples whose two Venus points fall within each orb of an exact 30 degrees.
| Allowed miss | Share of couples. |
|---|---|
| Within 3 degrees | 19.0 percent. |
| Within 6 degrees | 36.1 percent. |
| Within 8 degrees | 46.3 percent. |
| Within 10 degrees | 55.7 percent. |
So fewer than half of these couples have a true semi-sextile at a common orb of 8 degrees. That share is close to the same for every pair of signs, so it is not special to this one.
The edges tell a second story. Take a Venus at 28 degrees Taurus and one at 3 degrees Gemini. They sit only 5 degrees apart. By degree, that is a conjunction, the closest bond of all, even though the signs differ. At the far edge, early Taurus and late Gemini can form a sextile across the sign line. One of these major aspects turns up within 8 degrees for 7.0 percent of couples.
A birth date is enough to find the Venus degree to within a degree or so. Venus never moves more than about a degree and a quarter in a day.
How the tradition reads this pair
In the old books, Venus stands for what we find lovely and how we show care. The sign colors that style.
Where the pair flows
The Taurus Venus brings the steady hand. It shows love with food, touch, time and a home that feels safe. The Gemini Venus brings the light touch. It shows love with talk, wit, notes and new plans.
Each one supplies what the other lacks in the old reading. Taurus gives Gemini a place to land. Gemini gives Taurus a reason to step out. A couple that names this split can share the work of love with less blame.
The Sun data adds a quiet link. In 78 percent of these couples, at least one partner is a Taurus or Gemini Sun. So most of these couples include someone born between late April and late June.
Where it snags
The friction is about pace and proof. The Taurus Venus trusts what lasts and wants the same thing again. The Gemini Venus trusts what is fresh and wants the next thing. What feels like calm to one partner can feel like a rut to the other.
The rank gap adds a second strain. The Taurus Venus has what it needs at home. The Gemini Venus is a guest of Mercury, restless by design. So one partner seeks comfort, and the other seeks a spark.
Modern writers such as Liz Greene and Stephen Arroyo read a Venus through its element. Earth loves by building. Air loves by talking. Neither is better. They are two dialects of care.
What the evidence says
No study has tested Venus pairs. The best test of love signs used the Sun. In 2007 the sociologist David Voas looked at the 2001 census of England and Wales, with 10.3 million married couples. He found no link between Sun signs and who marries whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors on the forms.
So read the Taurus and Gemini Venus match as a way to talk about pace and comfort. It is not a verdict on a couple. The odds on this page are odds about the sky, not about love.
How we measured it
All figures cover 1 January 1600 to 1 January 2400, in the tropical zodiac, seen from the center of the Earth. Every moment of birth counts the same. A long window matters, since Venus repeats its path on an eight-year cycle and a short span can skew the shares.
Route one used the Astronomy Engine library. It found every change of sign for Venus and the Sun to within a tenth of a second, then summed the time in each state exactly. Route two used the Swiss Ephemeris, a separate set of planet math, with Venus and the Sun placed once an hour on a grid shifted by 30 minutes. That gave just over 7 million moments. The two routes agree within 0.01 of a point on every Venus figure here.
The couple odds pair two people born at unrelated moments. The Sun mixes combine the Sun shares of each Venus sign. The degree shares use the true spread of Venus inside each sign, in steps of a tenth of a degree. Real couples are born close in time, so treat these as odds for strangers.

Questions about Taurus and Gemini Venus
Are Taurus Venus and Gemini Venus compatible?
By the old rules, the signs have no bond. Ptolemy called signs one step apart disjunct. Modern astrologers read the gap as a semi-sextile, two styles that must learn each other. No study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple does.
Is Venus weak in Gemini?
No. Venus has no major rank in Gemini, so astrologers call it peregrine, a guest in Mercury’s sign. It is not in exile or in fall. It simply loves in the style of its host, through words and wit.
How common is a Taurus Venus and Gemini Venus couple?
About 1 random couple in 69. That puts it fourth of the 78 Venus pairs. The spread is small, since the twelve Venus signs are close to equal.
What Sun signs do Taurus Venus and Gemini Venus partners have?
The likeliest mix is one Taurus Sun and one Gemini Sun, in about 1 couple in 7. In most of those couples, the Suns sit the other way round from the Venus signs. The partners share a Sun sign in about 1 couple in 5.
Is a Taurus and Gemini Venus pair always a semi-sextile?
By sign, yes. By degree, no. The two points sit within 8 degrees of an exact semi-sextile in 46.3 percent of couples. Near the sign line, they can form a conjunction instead.
