Scorpio Venus and Scorpio Venus Compatibility: Exiled Twice, and Second-Rarest of All 78 Pairs

Scorpio Venus and Scorpio Venus compatibility joins two people with Venus in the same sign, and a hard sign for her. The old books place Venus in detriment in Scorpio, one of her two weak seats. So this couple holds the same weakness twice. It is also one of the rarest Venus pairs of all.

We tracked Venus and the Sun from 1600 to 2400 to put numbers on this pair. This page gives the counts, the Sun signs that sit behind a Scorpio Venus, and what the old authors wrote. Read it as a lens for talking about love, not as a forecast. Astrology is not a science, and no study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple will do.

Venus in the house of Mars

Your Venus sign is the sign Venus was in when you were born. In astrology it shows what you find lovely and how you like to be loved. The old authors gave each planet a rank in each sign. A home, or domicile, is a sign the planet rules. An exaltation is a sign where it is honored. Detriment and fall are its two weak places.

Detriment is the sign straight across from a home. Venus rules Taurus, and Scorpio sits opposite Taurus. So Venus in Scorpio is in detriment. Some astrologers call it exile. William Lilly lists it in the table of ranks in Christian Astrology (1647).

Scorpio belongs to Mars in the old scheme. Ptolemy gave out the houses in Book I, chapter 17, of the Tetrabiblos, written in the second century. Mars got Scorpio and Aries, which sit square to the houses of the Sun and Moon. He tied that square to Mars’ “destructive and inharmonious quality.” Venus, the planet of ease and pleasure, is a guest there in the house of her opposite. Modern authors add Pluto as a second ruler of Scorpio. This page keeps to the old scheme.

Partner Rank of Venus Ruler of the sign.
First Scorpio Venus Detriment, or exile. Mars, in the old scheme.
Second Scorpio Venus Detriment, or exile. Mars, in the old scheme.

Six of the 78 Venus pairs set both Venuses in a weak seat. Three of them repeat one sign. Aries with Aries and this pair are double detriments, both in houses of Mars. Virgo with Virgo is the only double fall, as Virgo Venus and Virgo Venus compatibility explains.

A Scorpio Venus loves with depth, focus and fierce loyalty. It wants all or nothing. Our page on Venus in Scorpio covers that placement in full. A weak rank is a label from old books. It is not a flaw in a person. Many astrologers read it as love that has to work harder to feel safe.

The second-rarest of the 78 Venus pairs

Venus does not spend equal time in each sign. About every 19 months, it seems to move backward for six weeks, which astrologers call retrograde. Venus repeats its path on an eight-year cycle, so a short span of years can skew the count. We used eight full centuries.

Venus sign Share of time, 1600 to 2400 Rank among twelve.
Venus in Scorpio 8.11 percent Eleventh of twelve.
Venus in Capricorn 8.04 percent The rarest sign.
Even split 8.33 percent One sign in twelve.

Now pick two people at random. What is the chance that both have Venus in Scorpio? It is the share squared: 0.66 percent, or about one couple in 152. That ranks 77th of the 78 Venus pairs. Only two Capricorn Venuses are rarer.

Same-sign pairs are all rare, since both people must land in one sign. Here are the twelve, from most to least common.

Same Venus sign How common Rank of 78.
Cancer and Cancer 1 couple in 134.5 67th.
Taurus and Taurus 1 couple in 135.5 68th.
Gemini and Gemini 1 couple in 139.7 69th.
Leo and Leo 1 couple in 139.8 70th.
Virgo and Virgo 1 couple in 141.4 71st.
Libra and Libra 1 couple in 144.4 72nd.
Pisces and Pisces 1 couple in 144.6 73rd.
Aries and Aries 1 couple in 145.6 74th.
Sagittarius and Sagittarius 1 couple in 147.8 75th.
Aquarius and Aquarius 1 couple in 150.4 76th.
Scorpio and Scorpio 1 couple in 152 77th.
Capricorn and Capricorn 1 couple in 154.7 78th, the last.

The gaps are small, so read the order loosely. It rests on eight full centuries. A short window of years would shuffle it, which is why we do not use one.

One sign, but not always one point

When two points share a sign, astrologers call it a conjunction. But a sign spans 30 degrees. A Venus at 1 degree Scorpio and a Venus at 29 degrees Scorpio share a sign, yet sit 28 degrees apart. Most astrologers only count a conjunction when the gap falls within a margin, called an orb. We measured how many couples meet each orb.

Orb Share of couples Reading.
3 degrees 18.99 percent About one couple in five.
6 degrees 35.98 percent About one couple in three.
8 degrees 46.20 percent Just under half.
10 degrees 55.53 percent Just over half.

These shares are almost the same for every Venus pair. They come from the geometry of a 30-degree sign, not from Scorpio. So a bit more than half of these couples have a close Venus conjunction at a 10-degree orb. The rest share a sign and a style, but not a single point.

What Ptolemy’s other ties say

Ptolemy lists other ties between signs in chapters 14 and 15. They pair a sign with a different sign, so they do not apply inside one sign. They still place Scorpio on the map. Frank Robbins, whose Loeb edition is the standard English text, lists the pairs in his notes.

In note 80, Virgo “commands” Scorpio, and Scorpio “obeys.” In note 83, Scorpio “beholds” Pisces, reading the text by whole signs. Read by exact degrees instead, each degree of Scorpio mirrors one of Aquarius across the winter solstice. Lilly called such mirror points antiscia. Two Scorpio Venuses cannot mirror each other on either reading. Their bond is the plain one: the same sign, the same element and the same ruler.

Which Sun signs sit behind a Scorpio Venus

Seen from Earth, Venus never strays far from the Sun. We measured the widest gap at 47.28 degrees, less than two signs. So a Scorpio Venus can only go with five Sun signs. The table shows the split.

Sun sign Share of Scorpio Venus people Note.
Virgo 9.31 percent Venus two signs ahead of the Sun.
Libra 29.72 percent The largest group.
Scorpio 23.48 percent Sun and Venus in one sign.
Sagittarius 28.39 percent Venus one sign behind.
Capricorn 9.11 percent Venus two signs behind.

Fewer than one Scorpio Venus in four has a Scorpio Sun. Most are born under the signs on either side. So the likeliest couple in this pair is not two Scorpio Suns. It is a Libra Sun with a Sagittarius Sun, at 16.87 percent, about one couple in six. That is a trend, not a rule.

Sun signs of the couple Share of couples Note.
Libra and Sagittarius 16.87 percent The likeliest mix.
Libra and Scorpio 13.96 percent Second.
Scorpio and Sagittarius 13.33 percent Third.
Libra and Libra 8.83 percent The likeliest same-Sun couple.
Sagittarius and Sagittarius 8.06 percent Fifth.
Scorpio and Scorpio 5.51 percent About one couple in 18.

Why does a mixed couple beat two Libra Suns? A Libra and Sagittarius couple can form two ways: the first partner Libra and the second Sagittarius, or the reverse. So its share counts twice.

Both partners share a Sun sign in 24.10 percent of couples, about one in four. We sorted all couples by the angle between their Sun signs.

Angle between the two Sun signs Share of couples Example.
Semi-sextile, one sign apart 37.99 percent Libra Sun with Scorpio Sun.
Sextile, two signs apart 25.53 percent Libra Sun with Sagittarius Sun.
Same sign 24.10 percent Libra Sun with Libra Sun.
Square, three signs apart 10.70 percent Virgo Sun with Sagittarius Sun.
Trine, four signs apart 1.70 percent Virgo Sun with Capricorn Sun.

Our page on Scorpio and Scorpio compatibility covers the couple with two Scorpio Suns, which is a different group of people. Our pivot page on Venus sign compatibility explains the Sun window for all twelve Venus signs.

Two Scorpio Venuses in daily life

Astrologers read Scorpio as fixed water. Water is the element of feeling. Fixed signs, the ones in the middle of each season, hold their shape. So a Scorpio Venus feels deeply and holds on. It gives trust slowly and fully.

Two of them know each other at once. Neither needs to explain the need for depth, privacy or loyalty. That shared code can make the bond feel rare and safe. It can also make both partners guarded at the same time, each waiting for the other to open first.

Theme What a Scorpio Venus wants What two of them risk.
Trust Proof, given over time. Both testing, neither yielding.
Privacy A bond the world does not see. A closed circle with no fresh air.
Loyalty All or nothing. Jealousy that goes unspoken.
Hurt Time alone to process. Two silences that last too long.

Where the friction sits, and how couples use it

The detriment reading gives a useful picture. Venus in Scorpio is love in a Mars house, so it carries some heat and some armor. With two of them, the risk is a quiet contest of control. The strength is a loyalty that few other pairs match.

Some couples in this pair find these questions useful.

  • What proof of trust do I still ask for, and is it fair?
  • What do I keep private, even from you, and why?
  • When I go quiet, what do I want you to do?
  • How do we each show jealousy, and how can we name it early?
  • Who has more say in our choices, and does that feel right to both of us?

These are good questions for any couple. The Venus signs just give you a shared language to start the talk.

What the evidence says

No study has found that sign pairs predict love. The largest test we know of is by the sociologist David Voas. In 2007 he looked at 10.3 million married couples in the 2001 census of England and Wales. He found no link between Sun signs and who marries whom. Venus signs have never been tested at that scale. So read this page as a lens and a talking point, never as a verdict on your bond.

How we measured

We found each entry of Venus and the Sun into every sign from 1600 to 2400, to within a second, with the astronomy-engine code library. Then we added up the time Venus spent in each sign, and in each sign with each Sun sign. A second route, the Swiss Ephemeris, sampled every hour on a grid shifted by 30 minutes. The two routes agree to within 0.01 point. The orb shares come from the true spread of Venus inside Scorpio, in steps of 0.1 degree.

Frequently asked questions

Are two Scorpio Venuses compatible?

By tradition they share one style of love: deep, loyal and private. Both Venuses sit in detriment in the house of Mars, so trust and control are the themes to watch. No study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple will do, so treat this as a lens, not a verdict.

How rare is a Scorpio Venus and Scorpio Venus couple?

About one couple in 152, or 0.66 percent, measured from 1600 to 2400. It ranks 77th of the 78 Venus pairs. Only two Capricorn Venuses are rarer.

Why is Venus in detriment in Scorpio?

Detriment is the sign opposite a home. Venus rules Taurus, and Scorpio sits across from Taurus. Scorpio is also a house of Mars, which Ptolemy placed square to the houses of the Sun and Moon.

Do two Scorpio Venuses usually have the same Sun sign?

No. They share a Sun sign in about one couple in four. The likeliest couple is a Libra Sun with a Sagittarius Sun, at 16.87 percent. Two Scorpio Suns come to 5.51 percent, about one couple in 18.

Is the Venus conjunction always exact in this pair?

No. The two Venuses can sit anywhere in the 30 degrees of Scorpio. They fall within 8 degrees of each other in 46.20 percent of couples, and within 3 degrees in about one couple in five.
