Virgo Venus and Virgo Venus Compatibility: A Double Fall, and the Likeliest Couple Is a Leo and a Libra

Virgo Venus and Virgo Venus compatibility pairs two people with Venus in the same sign, and a hard sign for her at that. The old books call Virgo the fall of Venus, her lowest seat. So this couple holds a double fall. Of all 78 Venus pairs, it is the only one where both Venuses sit in their fall.

We tracked Venus and the Sun from 1600 to 2400 to put numbers on this pair. This page gives the counts, the Sun signs behind each Venus, and what the old authors wrote. Read it as a lens for talking about love, not as a forecast. Astrology is not a science, and no study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple will do.

What a fall means, and why Virgo

Your Venus sign is the sign Venus was in when you were born. In astrology it shows what you find lovely and how you like to be loved. The old authors gave each planet a rank in each sign. A home, or domicile, is a sign the planet rules. An exaltation is a sign where it is honored. The fall and the detriment are its two weak places.

Ptolemy set out the exaltations and falls in Book I of the Tetrabiblos. His reason for Venus was about moisture. Venus is moist by nature, he wrote, so her power grows in Pisces, “where the beginning of the moist spring is indicated.” Virgo sits across the wheel and stands for the dry autumn. So Venus sinks there. Ptolemy called this her depression. Later authors, such as William Lilly, called it her fall.

Mercury is the other half of the story. Ptolemy calls Mercury drier, so he is exalted in Virgo, where Venus falls. Mercury rules Virgo too. So in this sign Mercury is both the owner of the house and its guest of honor. Venus is the guest with the lowest seat.

Partner Rank of Venus Who runs the sign.
First Virgo Venus Fall, her lowest seat. Mercury, ruler and exalted.
Second Virgo Venus Fall, her lowest seat. Mercury, ruler and exalted.

A weak rank is a label from old books. It is not a flaw in a person. Here it means Venus speaks with Mercury’s accent: careful, exact, and a little shy of show. Our page on Venus in Virgo explains why a fall is not the same as a detriment.

The only double fall among 78 pairs

Venus has four weak places. Her detriments are Aries and Scorpio, the signs across from her two homes. Her fall is Virgo alone. So six Venus pairs join two weak Venuses. Five of them involve Aries or Scorpio. Only one joins two Venuses in fall, and it is this one.

The difference matters in the old books. A planet in detriment sits in a house run by its opposite. A planet in fall sits where its nature is dried out, but it keeps some footing. Ptolemy gives a hint of that footing in chapter 18. There he sorts the signs into four triangles. Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn form the earth triangle. He gave it to the Moon by night and to Venus by day. So in a day chart, a birth with the Sun above the horizon, Venus still holds a share of rule in Virgo.

Two partners with a day chart each have that share. A night birth drops it. Your birth time decides which.

How common this pair is

Venus does not spend equal time in each sign. About every 19 months, it seems to move backward for six weeks, which astrologers call retrograde. Venus repeats its path on an eight-year cycle, so a short span of years can skew the count. We used eight full centuries.

Venus sign Share of time, 1600 to 2400 Rank among twelve.
Venus in Virgo 8.41 percent Fifth of twelve.
Even split 8.33 percent One sign in twelve.

Now pick two people at random. What is the chance that both have Venus in Virgo? A same-sign pair can form only one way, so we square the share. The answer is 0.71 percent, or about one couple in 141. That ranks 71st of the 78 Venus pairs. All twelve same-sign pairs sit at the bottom of that list.

Same-sign Venus pair One couple in Rank among twelve.
Cancer and Cancer About 134 couples. Most common.
Virgo and Virgo About 141 couples. Fifth.
Capricorn and Capricorn About 155 couples. Rarest.

A shared sign, and how close the two Venuses sit

Two Venuses in one sign form a conjunction by sign. Ptolemy’s chapter 13 lists four aspects: the opposition, the trine, the square and the sextile. The conjunction is not among them. Later authors, Lilly among them, counted it as the closest bond of all.

But one sign spans 30 degrees. Two Venuses in Virgo can sit anywhere from 0 to 30 degrees apart. The margin allowed around an exact aspect is called the orb. We used the real spread of Venus inside Virgo to see how many couples come close.

Orb Couples with a true conjunction Reading.
3 degrees 18.98 percent About one in five.
6 degrees 35.93 percent About one in three.
8 degrees 46.12 percent Just under half.
10 degrees 55.42 percent Just over half.

At 8 degrees, 46.12 percent is the lowest value of all 78 pairs. The margin is thin, a tenth of a point below an even spread. It comes from how Venus moves through Virgo, not from any meaning. Still, more than half of these couples share a sign without a close conjunction.

Ptolemy’s other ties do not apply here. Signs that “command” and “obey,” or “behold” each other, are always two different signs.

Which Sun signs sit behind a Virgo Venus

Venus never strays far from the Sun, as seen from Earth. We measured the widest gap at 47.28 degrees, less than two signs. So a Virgo Venus can only go with five Sun signs.

Sun sign Share of Virgo Venus people Note.
Cancer 8.65 percent Venus two signs ahead of the Sun.
Leo 29.85 percent The largest group.
Virgo 23.66 percent Sun and Venus in one sign.
Libra 28.93 percent Venus one sign behind.
Scorpio 8.91 percent Venus two signs behind.

In calendar terms, Virgo Venus people are born between about June 21 and November 21. Fewer than one in four has a Virgo Sun. Leo and Libra Suns each outnumber them.

A double fall, and the likeliest couple is a Leo and a Libra

Now combine two partners. We multiplied the Sun sign shares for each and grouped the results. Order does not matter: a Leo with a Libra counts once.

Sun pair Share of these couples Rank.
Leo and Libra 17.27 percent First, about one couple in six.
Leo and Virgo 14.13 percent Second.
Virgo and Libra 13.69 percent Third.
Leo and Leo 8.91 percent Fourth.
Libra and Libra 8.37 percent Fifth.
Virgo and Virgo 5.60 percent Sixth, about one couple in 18.

So the most likely face of this pair is a Leo and a Libra. They share the same Venus, in the sign that lies between their two Suns. A pair of Virgo Suns comes only sixth.

How do the two Suns line up? We grouped the Sun pairs by the angle between them.

Angle between the two Suns Share of couples What it means.
Semi-sextile 38.1 percent Next-door signs.
Sextile 25.6 percent A friendly link, two signs apart.
Same sign 24.4 percent Both Suns in one sign.
Square 10.3 percent A tense right angle.
Trine 1.5 percent Only a Cancer Sun with a Scorpio Sun.

The Suns never oppose each other, and never sit five signs apart. They share one sign in 24.42 percent of couples, about one in four. That share splits into Leo pairs, Libra pairs, Virgo pairs, and a sliver of Cancer and Scorpio pairs.

Two Virgo Suns are a different couple

Many readers land here because both partners are Virgo Suns. Does that make them this Venus pair? Not in most cases. Among Virgo Venus people, 23.66 percent have a Virgo Sun. Across all signs, Venus shares the Sun’s sign in 23.62 percent of birth moments. So for two Virgo Suns, a double Virgo Venus fits roughly one couple in 18.

That Sun pair has its own page, Virgo and Virgo compatibility by Sun sign. It counts how common the Sun pair is and what a census error did to it.

Turn it around. In 41.72 percent of Virgo Venus couples, at least one partner has Venus in their own Sun sign. That ranks 33rd of the 78 pairs. In 5.6 percent, both do. A free birth chart shows your Venus sign. If Venus sits near the edge of a sign, the birth time can decide it.

How the tradition reads this couple

None of what follows has been tested. It is how the tradition reads the pair.

  • Shared ground. Both love with deeds more than with speeches. A fixed tap, a clean desk and a kept promise all count.
  • Mercury in the room. Both Venuses report to the same ruler. Love gets talked through, listed and checked.
  • The mirror. Each sees the other’s flaws clearly, because they are their own.
  • The sore spot. Care can slide into critique. Two careful people can both wait for the other to relax first.

A simple habit helps. Let each partner name one thing a week that needs no fixing. Say it out loud, and leave it alone. The fall of Venus is, in the old logic, a lack of moisture. In that logic, warmth is what the pair lacks, and what each can give.

The tradition sees a planet in fall as one that works harder for less. Read that way, this couple earns affection through effort, twice over. The shared sign gives them a shared tongue. In Virgo, love is shown in useful acts.

The same sign through other planets and pairs

The Moon shows emotional needs, a layer apart from Venus. Our page on Virgo Moon and Virgo Moon compatibility reads the sign through that layer. A Virgo Venus meets another weak Venus in Venus in Aries and Venus in Virgo compatibility. Across the wheel, it faces Venus at her peak in Virgo Venus and Pisces Venus compatibility. Next door, it meets Venus at home in Virgo Venus and Libra Venus compatibility.

Every pair of Venus signs is listed in our guide to Venus sign compatibility, sign by sign.

What the evidence says

The largest test of sign matches used the 2001 census of England and Wales. The sociologist David Voas looked at 10.3 million married couples. He found no effect of Sun signs on who marries whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors in the data. His paper, “Ten million marriages,” came out in 2007. It tested Sun signs only. No test of that size exists for Venus signs.

So a shared sign is not a promise, and a fall is not a warning. This page shows the sky behind the label.

How we measured

We used two methods that share no code. The first used the Astronomy Engine library. It found each time Venus and the Sun entered a sign from 1600 to 2400, to a tenth of a second, and added up the time. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris. It checked the sign of Venus every hour, on a grid set half an hour off the first. That is more than seven million points. Neither method drew random numbers. On the Venus figures, the two agree within 0.01 points.

Pair odds assume two people born at unrelated moments. The Sun pair figures multiply each partner’s Sun sign shares. The degree figures use the real spread of Venus inside Virgo, in steps of a tenth of a degree. All values use the tropical zodiac, seen from Earth. Ptolemy is quoted from the Loeb edition by Frank Robbins, Book I, chapters 13 to 19.

Frequently asked questions

Are two Venus in Virgo partners compatible?

They share one sign, one element and one ruler, Mercury. Both Venuses are in their fall. At an 8 degree orb, 46.12 percent of these couples have a true conjunction. No study shows that Venus signs predict how a couple does.

How common is a Virgo Venus and Virgo Venus couple?

About one couple in 141, or 0.71 percent, over 1600 to 2400. It ranks 71st of the 78 Venus pairs and fifth of the 12 same-sign pairs.

What Sun signs do two Virgo Venus partners have?

The likeliest mix is a Leo and a Libra, in 17.27 percent of these couples. Two Virgo Suns come sixth, at 5.6 percent, about one couple in 18.

Why is Venus in fall in Virgo?

Ptolemy put her exaltation in moist Pisces and her fall in dry Virgo, the sign across from it. Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, is exalted there instead.

Is this the only Venus pair with two weak Venuses?

No. Six pairs join two Venuses in fall or detriment. This is the only one where both are in fall; the other five involve Aries or Scorpio.
