Ask an old astrology book which sign weakens Venus most, and it points to Aries. Ask the sky how many people are born with Venus in Aries, and the answer is far less dramatic. We measured the years 1600 to 2400. Venus spends 8.29 percent of that time in Aries. That is close to one chart in twelve, the even share. So Venus in Aries is neither rare nor the most common. It is ordinary.
That gap between doctrine and data is the whole story of this placement. Below, we explain the old rule, show the real count, and give the exact dates for 2026 and 2027.
What Venus in Aries means in plain words
Your birth chart is a map of the sky at your birth. Think of it as a house with twelve rooms. Each room covers one part of life. The planets are the furniture inside.
Venus is the planet of love, taste and money. Its sign tells you how you love, not who you love. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. It is a fire sign, ruled by Mars, the planet of drive and conflict.
Put those two together. Venus in Aries wants love fast, hot and clear. You make the first move. You say what you want out loud. You hate hints and slow build-ups. A crush hits you like a match striking. Boredom kills the spark just as fast.
This is why the sign gets a name it half deserves: the chaser. Venus in Aries loves the start of things. The chase is the fun part. What comes after the chase is the real test.
Why the old astrologers called Venus in Aries weak
Here we meet a word worth knowing: detriment. A planet is in detriment when it sits in the sign opposite the one it rules. Rulership is simple. Each planet owns two signs, the way a landlord owns two houses. Venus owns Taurus and Libra. The sign facing Taurus is Scorpio. The sign facing Libra is Aries. So Venus in Aries is a guest in a hostile house.
When the partner has Venus at home in Libra, both ends of that axis meet, as our page on Venus in Aries and Venus in Libra compatibility explains.
A partner with Venus in Scorpio sits in the other hostile house, a match traced in Aries Venus and Scorpio Venus compatibility.
The rule is old. Claudius Ptolemy, the Greek writer who set down much of Western star lore in the second century, laid out this grid of signs in his Tetrabiblos. Vettius Valens, who wrote his Anthologies a bit later, worked from the same map. In 1647 the English astrologer William Lilly still used it in Christian Astrology. He read a planet in detriment as one that must work harder for a smaller result.
A partner with Venus in Aquarius is a guest too, of Saturn this time, as Venus in Aries and Venus in Aquarius compatibility explains.
What does that mean for you? Venus in her own signs asks for peace, comfort and fair trade. In Aries she gets none of those tools. She gets speed and nerve instead. So love here is honest and brave and short on patience. That is a real cost. It is not a flaw in your character.
Next door in Taurus, Venus is at home, and Aries Venus and Taurus Venus compatibility looks at that meeting of exile and home.
On the other side, in Pisces, Venus is exalted, and Aries Venus and Pisces Venus compatibility shows how the two ranks sit only three degrees apart.
Modern writers read it more kindly. Liz Greene treats a hard placement as a task, not a verdict. Robert Hand, in Planets in Transit, keeps the old labels but warns against reading them as good luck or bad luck. Demetra George and Chris Brennan, who both work from Greek sources, make the same point: detriment describes a working style, not a doom.
The count: Venus in Aries holds an even share
Here is where the doctrine meets the sky. Venus never strays far from the Sun. From Earth we watch her swing to one side of the Sun, then the other. She never gets more than about 47 degrees away. Our own scan of 20,000 dates found a peak gap of 47.15 degrees.
Because of that leash, Venus does not move at a steady pace. She speeds through some signs and crawls through others. Her pattern repeats close to every eight years. So a short span of years can tilt the count. A long span evens it out.
We tested it over a long span. We checked the Venus sign every six hours from 1600 to 2400, using the astronomy-engine library. That is 1,168,776 checks. We then timed each change of sign to the second and added up the days. The two routes agree to within 0.003 points. Anyone can repeat this. Here is the share of time Venus spends in each sign:
| Venus sign | Share of time, 1600 to 2400 |
|---|---|
| Cancer | 8.62 percent. |
| Taurus | 8.59 percent. |
| Gemini | 8.46 percent. |
| Leo | 8.46 percent. |
| Virgo | 8.41 percent. |
| Libra | 8.32 percent. |
| Pisces | 8.32 percent. |
| Aries | 8.29 percent. |
| Sagittarius | 8.23 percent. |
| Aquarius | 8.16 percent. |
| Scorpio | 8.11 percent. |
| Capricorn | 8.04 percent. |
Look where the two signs of detriment land. Aries sits eighth, just under the even share of 8.33 percent. Scorpio sits eleventh. Taurus, one of the two signs Venus owns, sits second. The gap from top to bottom is less than 0.6 points.
Do the sum. From 1600 to 2400, Venus sits in detriment 16.40 percent of the time. She sits in her own signs 16.91 percent of the time. So she is at home a little more than she is a guest in a hostile house. About one person in six carries the placement the old books call weak.
That single fact should change how you read it. A trait shared by one person in twelve is not a curse. It is a norm. If Venus in Aries were truly broken, love would have stopped working long ago.
The Venus in Aries woman
She goes first. She asks for the date, picks the bar, ends the night when she wants to. Waiting to be chosen bores her, and boredom reads on her face.
Her warmth is loud and short. She will fight with you at nine and forget it by ten. What wounds her is not a row. It is being handled with soft gloves.
The hard part is the long middle of love. The first month is easy for her. Month fourteen asks for a skill Aries does not hand out for free: staying put when nothing new is happening. Learning that skill is the whole job of this placement.
The Venus in Aries man
He shows interest within minutes. He does not build a slow case. He states it, and then watches what you do with it.
He is drawn to nerve. A partner with her own plans, her own money and a flat refusal to be managed holds him. A partner who mirrors him back to himself loses him fast.
His weak spot is the sulk after the win. Once the chase ends, the fuel runs low. The fix is not a new person. It is a shared risk: a move, a build, a hard trip. Mars, which rules Aries, wants a target. Give it one, and the love holds. You can see the same hunger in a raw form in Mars in Aries.
Venus in Aries style
Venus rules taste, so this sign shows up in how you dress a room and a body. Venus in Aries picks bold and simple. One red coat. One strong cut. Nothing fussy, nothing layered, nothing that takes an hour.
Speed is the tell. This is the person who buys the first thing they like and walks out. Compare that with Venus in Taurus, who touches every fabric in the shop before choosing. Both get a good result. Only one enjoys the shop.
Venus in Aries and money
Venus rules what you value, so she also rules how you spend. In Aries she spends the way she loves: quickly, and on the thing in front of her.
This is the sign of the impulse buy made without regret. The purchase is rarely dull. The problem is the second one that week.
Aries is a cardinal sign, which in plain terms means it starts things. So money here flows toward launches: a new kit, a new venture, a first month of gear. That instinct earns well when it meets a plan. It bleeds when it does not.
The fix is a rule, not a mood. Set one waiting day on any large buy. Aries hates the wait and keeps the good decisions anyway.
Who Venus in Aries fits
Match Venus signs, not Sun signs, when you ask about love style. Two Venus signs in the same element speak the same language.
With a Gemini Venus, air feeds fire across a sextile, and Aries Venus and Gemini Venus compatibility shows how a Taurus Sun can sit between the two.
With a Leo Venus, this placement forms a fire trine, and our look at Venus in Aries and Venus in Leo compatibility shows the two can share only a Gemini Sun.
- Leo and Sagittarius Venus: fire meets fire. Fast, warm, loud, and easy to keep alight.
- Gemini and Aquarius Venus: air feeds fire. These two give Aries the fresh input it needs.
- Libra Venus: the facing sign, and Venus at home. This pair reads as a clash and works as a trade. Aries brings heat, Venus in Libra brings grace.
- Cancer and Capricorn Venus: the hardest fit. Both want a slow build. Aries reads that as a wall.
- Taurus Venus: the other home of Venus. Steady, sensual, unhurried. Read Venus in Taurus to see what Aries lacks and can borrow.
None of these is a rule. A whole chart beats one placement every time.
Cancer meets Aries at a square, and Aries Venus and Cancer Venus compatibility shows why these partners share a Sun sign in only 1 couple in 20.
Paired with a Virgo Venus, both partners hold a weak Venus rank, which our page on Venus in Aries and Venus in Virgo compatibility unpacks.
For the fire trine in numbers, see Aries Venus and Sagittarius Venus compatibility.
Capricorn, the hardest fit on that list, meets Aries at a square, as Aries Venus and Capricorn Venus compatibility explains.
If your partner has Venus in Aries too, both loves answer to Mars, as our page on Aries Venus and Aries Venus compatibility explains.
When Venus is in Aries: dates for 2026 and 2027
Most guides talk about the transit and give no dates. We ran the ephemeris, which is a table of planet positions through time. Here are the exact moments Venus crosses into Aries and out again. All times are UTC.
| Enters Aries | Leaves Aries | Days in sign |
|---|---|---|
| 6 March 2026, 10:45 | 30 March 2026, 16:00 | 24 |
| 20 April 2027, 03:56 | 14 May 2027, 21:01 | 24 |
Twenty-four days is the normal length. Venus moves quickly here, so the window is short. If you want to act on it, mark the first week.
Note the jump between the two years. Venus does not enter Aries on the same date each year. Her cycle runs close to eight years, not one. That is why the 2026 window sits in early March and the 2027 window sits in late April.
When Venus turns backward in Aries
Planets sometimes look like they move backward against the stars. That apparent reversal is what retrograde means. Nothing in space changes direction. We are simply passing on the inside track.
Venus goes retrograde for about six weeks every 19 months. That is the rarest retrograde of the visible planets. Our scan of the years 2020 to 2042 found only three Venus retrogrades that begin in Aries:
- 2 March 2025, at 10.8 degrees of Aries
- 28 February 2033, at 8.5 degrees of Aries
- 26 February 2041, at 6.2 degrees of Aries
Look at the spacing: eight years apart, each one landing about two degrees earlier. That drift is a real feature of the Venus cycle, and it is easy to check for yourself. The next Venus retrograde of any kind starts on 4 October 2026, in Scorpio, the other sign of detriment. For what a backward planet means in a birth chart, see our guide to retrograde planets.
How to work with Venus in Aries
The old rule says one thing clearly. This Venus is built for the start of love and not for the middle. So the work is clear.
Say the thing. Your bluntness is the gift. Do not sand it down to please a partner who wants hints.
Then build the second act on purpose. Fire needs fuel, and fuel here means a shared goal with a real deadline. A trip you both plan. A room you both paint. A course you both start on the same day.
Last, name the boredom when it comes. Venus in Aries reads flat weeks as a sign the love died. It is not. It is the sign that the chase ended and the building has not started.
Frequently asked questions
Is Venus in Aries the worst Venus placement?
It is one of two signs where Venus is in detriment, along with Scorpio. Ptolemy gave Venus her two homes but no name for the signs across from them. Later tradition, set out by William Lilly in 1647, calls this her detriment and reads it as a weak spot. It means Venus works with tools that do not suit her, not that love goes wrong.
Is Venus in Aries rare?
No, and it is not the most common either. We measured the years 1600 to 2400. Venus spends 8.29 percent of that time in Aries, next to the even share of 8.33 percent.
What is Venus in Aries attracted to?
Nerve, speed and a clear yes. A person with their own life and no wish to be managed holds this placement. Mind games end it.
When is Venus in Aries in 2026?
From 6 March 2026 at 10:45 UTC to 30 March 2026 at 16:00 UTC, a window of 24 days.
Which Venus signs fit Venus in Aries best?
Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini and Aquarius Venus share the pace. Cancer and Capricorn Venus ask for a slower build and find this placement blunt.
Does Venus in Aries stay faithful?
This placement loves the start of things, so the risk is the search for a new start. Faith here is a choice backed by a shared plan, not a trait handed out at birth.
Your own chart, not a template
Venus in Aries in the fifth room of the chart is not the same as Venus in Aries in the seventh. The room changes the story. So does every angle Venus makes to the rest of your chart.
