Aries Venus and Pisces Venus Compatibility: Three Degrees From Venus’s Peak to Her Exile

Aries Venus and Pisces Venus compatibility sits on the seam of the zodiac. Pisces is the last sign and Aries is the first. The line between them is the spring equinox point, where the Sun starts a new round each March. Venus has one of her best ranks just before that line and one of her worst just after it.

In Pisces, Venus is exalted, her seat of honor. Later writers put the peak of that honor at 27 degrees of Pisces. Three degrees further on, she enters Aries, a sign of exile for her. It is a short walk from honor to exile. We ran Venus and the Sun from 1600 to 2400 to see what else comes with this pair. This page gives the numbers, the old rules and their limits.

A word first. Astrology is not a science. No study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple will do. Read this as a lens for talking about love, not as a forecast.

Peak and exile, three degrees apart

Your Venus sign is the sign Venus was in when you were born. In astrology it shows what you find lovely and how you like to be loved. The tradition gives each planet a rank in each sign.

Partner Rank of Venus Ruler of the sign.
Pisces Venus Exaltation, the honored guest. Jupiter.
Aries Venus Exile, or detriment. Mars.

Exile means a planet sits across from its own home. Venus rules Libra, and Aries is the sign across from Libra. So in Aries, Venus is a guest of Mars, the planet of heat and speed. An Aries Venus loves in a direct, eager way. She wants to chase, to start and to say it now. Our page on Venus in Aries covers this placement in depth.

Exaltation means a planet is honored in a sign it does not own. Ptolemy named Pisces as the exaltation of Venus but gave no degree. Later writers fixed it at 27 degrees, and William Lilly printed that figure in 1647. A Pisces Venus loves in a soft, open, forgiving way. The line between self and other runs low. Our page on Venus in Pisces found that about one Pisces Venus in ten sits in the band from 27 to 30 degrees.

So this couple holds both ends of a short step. Neither rank is a verdict on a person. Exile says that Venus speaks in the accent of Mars. Exaltation says she is welcome where she is. Together they make a pair of chaser and dreamer, of spark and tide.

How common this pair is

Venus does not spend the same time in each sign. It speeds up, slows down and sometimes seems to move backward, which astrologers call retrograde. Over 800 years, each sign gets close to one twelfth of the time.

Venus sign Share of time, 1600 to 2400 Rank among twelve.
Venus in Aries 8.29 percent Eighth of twelve.
Venus in Pisces 8.32 percent Seventh of twelve.
Even split 8.33 percent One sign in twelve.

Pick two people at random. The chance that one has Venus in Aries and the other has Venus in Pisces is 1.38 percent. That is about one couple in 72 or 73. It ranks 41st of the 78 Venus pairs, near the middle.

Spring 2025: Venus crossed the line three times

In our era, every eight years, Venus turns retrograde near this seam. Then she crosses the line between Pisces and Aries three times in a few months. The last time was in 2025. Here are the dates, in universal time, from our own run.

Date, 2025 What Venus did Venus sign for babies born after.
3 January Entered Pisces Pisces.
4 February Entered Aries Aries.
2 March Turned retrograde at 10.8 degrees of Aries Still Aries.
27 March Slipped back into Pisces Pisces.
13 April Turned direct at 24.6 degrees of Pisces Still Pisces.
30 April Entered Aries again Aries.
6 June Entered Taurus Taurus.

In New York, three of these fell on the evening before: 2 January, 1 March and 12 April. The other dates are the same. So in the spring of 2025, a baby born on 26 March and one born on 28 March hold this exact pair. The same loop comes back in 2033. Venus turns retrograde on 27 February 2033 at 8.5 degrees of Aries.

Notice where Venus turned direct in 2025: 24.6 degrees of Pisces, a little short of her peak degree. Our Venus in Pisces page shows that turn slides about two degrees earlier every eight years. The loop is also one way a Pisces Venus ends up with an Aries Sun, the largest group in the table below.

Suns: the pair shares a sign one time in five

Venus never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun, as seen from Earth. We measured the widest gap at 47.28 degrees. So each Venus sign can sit with only five Sun signs. The tables show which Sun signs hold each Venus, as a share of all people with that Venus.

Sun sign Share of Aries Venus people Note.
Aquarius 9.07 percent Venus far ahead of the Sun.
Pisces 28.53 percent A close second.
Aries 23.60 percent Sun and Venus in one sign.
Taurus 29.90 percent The largest group.
Gemini 8.91 percent Venus far behind the Sun.
Sun sign Share of Pisces Venus people Note.
Capricorn 9.42 percent Venus far ahead of the Sun.
Aquarius 28.57 percent A close second.
Pisces 23.28 percent Sun and Venus in one sign.
Aries 29.56 percent The largest group.
Taurus 9.18 percent Venus far behind the Sun.

Four Sun signs sit on both lists: Aquarius, Pisces, Aries and Taurus. So these two partners share a Sun sign in 18.95 percent of couples, about one in five. That is far more than in pairs whose signs are further apart. A shared Aries Sun is the most frequent case, at 6.98 percent of couples, just ahead of a shared Pisces Sun at 6.64 percent.

Which pair of Sun signs turns up most? An Aries Sun with the Pisces Venus and a Pisces Sun with the Aries Venus. That covers 13.93 percent of these couples. So the likeliest Suns repeat the Venus pair, but crossed over. This is true of every pair of next-door Venus signs, not just this one.

How many partners have Venus in their own Sun sign? In 41.39 percent of these couples, at least one does. In 5.49 percent, both do.

What Ptolemy says: two readings

Claudius Ptolemy wrote the Tetrabiblos in Alexandria around 150 AD. In Book I he names four aspects: the opposition, the trine, the square and the sextile. Signs next to each other, like Aries and Pisces, are not on that list. The angle between them, 30 degrees, is called a semi-sextile. It came into use much later.

Ptolemy also names signs that “command” and “obey.” His words speak of parts of the zodiac that sit the same distance from the spring point. Those parts rise over the horizon in equal time. Here the two readings split.

Counted by whole signs, as Frank Robbins explains in the notes to his Loeb translation, Aries and Libra are the axis itself and stand outside the pairs. Pisces pairs with Taurus. So by whole signs, Aries and Pisces have no tie. Ptolemy calls such signs disjunct, or alien.

Counted by degrees, each degree of Pisces mirrors one of Aries across the spring point: 29 degrees of Pisces mirrors 1 degree of Aries, and so on. William Lilly calls such mirror points contra-antiscia. In this reading, Aries commands and Pisces obeys, because Ptolemy gives command to the northern sign. We measured how many couples have Venuses in that mirror. At 1 degree, it is 6.56 percent. At 3 degrees, it is 19.00 percent. For those couples, the oldest rules find a real bond, and it runs through the equinox.

How exact is the semi-sextile?

By sign, Aries and Pisces are always next door. By degree, the gap between two Venuses runs from 0 to 60. The exact semi-sextile is 30. An orb is the slack an astrologer allows around that angle.

Orb Couples with a true semi-sextile Reading.
3 degrees 19.00 percent A tight link, about one in five.
6 degrees 36.00 percent About one in three.
8 degrees 46.22 percent A common working orb.
10 degrees 55.55 percent A wide orb.

The edges matter here. A Venus at the end of Pisces and one at the start of Aries sit almost on top of each other. That is a conjunction across the sign line. A Venus late in Aries and one early in Pisces sit 60 degrees apart, a sextile. At an 8 degree orb, 7.12 percent of these couples have one of those two major aspects. For them, the pair is closer than the sign names suggest.

How the pair plays out

Read as symbols, the two Venuses meet at a start and an end. Fire meets water. A cardinal sign, which opens a season, meets a mutable sign, which closes one. Of all 78 Venus pairs, this is the only fire and water semi-sextile between a cardinal and a mutable sign.

The Aries Venus wants to act. It asks first and asks plainly. The Pisces Venus wants to merge. It reads the mood and gives without being asked. One can feel the other is too fast. The other can feel the first is too vague.

  • The Aries Venus brings courage, honesty and the nerve to make the first move.
  • The Pisces Venus brings tenderness, patience and a gift for forgiving.
  • Friction comes when a need for speed meets a need for mood.
  • Both do well when the Aries partner slows down and the Pisces partner says what they want.

A practical habit helps. Let the Aries partner start things: the date, the trip, the hard talk. Let the Pisces partner decide how they end: the tone, the repair, the quiet after. Each then loves in their own way, and the seam between them holds.

The same signs through other planets

The Sun is a different layer. Our page on Pisces and Aries compatibility reads these two as Sun signs, and it also looks at signs that rise in equal time. The Moon shows emotional needs, which our page on Aries Moon and Pisces Moon compatibility covers.

Each Venus has other partners. A Scorpio Venus is the other exile that faces a Pisces Venus, in Scorpio Venus and Pisces Venus compatibility. An Aries Venus faces Venus at home across the sky, in Venus in Aries and Venus in Libra compatibility. For all twelve signs, see our Venus sign compatibility guide.

What the evidence says

The largest test of sign matches used the 2001 census of England and Wales. The sociologist David Voas looked at 10.3 million married couples. He found no effect of Sun signs on who marries whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors in the data. His paper, “Ten million marriages,” came out in 2007. It tested Sun signs. No test of that size exists for Venus signs.

So an exile is not a warning, and an exaltation is not a promise. This page shows the sky behind the label, and nothing more.

How we measured

We used two methods that share no code. The first used the Astronomy Engine library. It found each time Venus and the Sun entered a sign from 1600 to 2400, to a tenth of a second, and added up the time. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris. It checked the sign of Venus every hour, on a grid set half an hour off the first. That is more than seven million points. Neither drew random numbers. On the Venus figures, they agree within 0.01 points.

The degree shares use the real spread of Venus inside each sign, in steps of a tenth of a degree. They assume two people born at unrelated moments. The 2025 and 2033 dates come from both engines, which agree to within an hour. All values use the tropical zodiac, seen from Earth. The Ptolemy readings follow the Loeb edition by Frank Robbins, Book I.

Frequently asked questions

Are Venus in Aries and Venus in Pisces compatible?

They are next-door signs, 30 degrees apart, an angle Ptolemy did not count. By degrees, some couples mirror each other across the spring point, a tie Ptolemy called commanding and obeying. No study shows that Venus signs predict how a couple does.

How common is an Aries Venus and Pisces Venus couple?

About one couple in 72 or 73, or 1.38 percent, over 1600 to 2400. It ranks 41st of the 78 Venus pairs.

Can an Aries Venus and a Pisces Venus share a Sun sign?

Yes. Aquarius, Pisces, Aries and Taurus are on both lists. The partners share a Sun sign in 18.95 percent of couples, about one in five.

Which Sun signs are most likely in this couple?

An Aries Sun with the Pisces Venus and a Pisces Sun with the Aries Venus, in 13.93 percent of couples. The Suns repeat the Venus pair, crossed over.

Why is Venus exalted in Pisces but in exile in Aries?

Ptolemy named Pisces as the sign where Venus is honored, and later writers put the peak at 27 degrees. Aries sits across from Libra, one of her homes, so the tradition calls it her exile. The two ranks are only three degrees apart.
