Two very different questions hide behind the same phrase. One is about a sky event happening now. The other is about people born in the 1940s. Both are called Uranus in Gemini. Most articles online blur the two, and readers leave more confused than they arrived.
This piece keeps them apart. First the sky event, with dates I worked out myself. Then the birth chart placement, and the odd fact that almost no one alive under 80 has it.
Uranus in Gemini means two things, not one
A birth chart is a map of the sky at the moment you were born. Picture it as a house with twelve rooms. Each room covers one part of life. The planets are the chairs and tables inside. Where a planet sits at your birth, it stays for life.
Uranus is slow. It takes about 84 years to circle the Sun once. Divide that by the twelve signs and you get close to seven years per sign. So this is a whole age group, not a private trait. Astrologers use a name for a spot shared by a whole age group: a generational placement.
That gives us two meanings, and they are not the same thing at all:
- In your birth chart. You were born while the planet sat in this sign. This is fixed and yours for life.
- As a sky event now. The planet is crossing the sign right now. A crossing like this is called a transit. It touches all of us, but it lands in a different room of each chart.
If you searched this phrase in 2026, you almost surely want the second one. The rest of this page treats them one at a time.
The exact dates, and how I got them
I did not copy the Uranus in Gemini dates from another site. I ran them with astronomy-engine, an open source tool that gives planet spots from the same models used by sky labs. The method is easy to state. I asked for the ecliptic longitude of the planet once per day, from 1930 to 2040. That term sounds hard and is not: it is the spot along the zodiac circle, in degrees, from 0 to 360. Gemini covers 60 to 90 degrees. Each time the value crossed a border, I cut the gap in half again and again, until I had the moment to the minute. Then I checked each moment against JPL Horizons, the NASA ephemeris service. Where the two differed by a few minutes, I kept the JPL time.
Here is what came back for the run we are in. All times are UTC, the world clock.
- 7 July 2025, 07:47 — first entry into the sign.
- 8 Nov 2025 — the planet backs out into Taurus.
- 26 April 2026, 00:51 — it comes back for the long stay.
- 3 Aug 2032, 18:21 — it moves on into Cancer.
- 12 Dec 2032 — it slips back for one last pass.
- 22 May 2033, 13:16 — it leaves for good.
One point worth a flag. Lots of American sites give 25 April 2026. Both are right. 00:51 UTC is 8:51 pm on 25 April in New York, on daylight time. Dates in this craft shift with your clock, and no one ever says so. That is why two guides can print two dates and both be honest.
Now add up each day the planet is truly inside the sign across the whole run: 2,576 days, or 7.05 years. That is not the same as the 7.87 years from first entry to last exit, since it steps out twice along the way.
I also chose to measure the orbit itself, rather than trust the number in the textbook. Seen from Earth, the planet loops back each year, so one return date is a poor ruler. So I timed ten full turns through the signs in a row. I started at its final entry into Taurus in March 1600 and stopped at the same event in April 2437. One turn takes 83.70 years on average. Split across twelve signs, the mean stay is 6.98 years. This pass, at 7.05 years, lands close to the mean, which is a good check that the whole method holds.
Every Uranus retrograde in Gemini, dated
Planets sometimes look as if they move backwards. They do not truly reverse. We watch from a moving Earth, and the view shifts. That backwards drift is called retrograde. The day a planet stops and turns is called a station.
Uranus turns back once a year and holds that way for close to five months. Across the current stay, my run gives these turns, checked against JPL Horizons. Dates are in UTC. Degrees are in this sign unless stated:
- 6 Sept 2025 — turns back at 1.5 degrees
- 4 Feb 2026 — turns forward at 27.5 degrees of Taurus
- 10 Sept 2026 — turns back at 5.7 degrees
- 8 Feb 2027 — turns forward at 1.7 degrees
- 15 Sept 2027 — turns back at 10.0 degrees
- 12 Feb 2028 — turns forward at 5.9 degrees
- 19 Sept 2028 — turns back at 14.2 degrees
- 16 Feb 2029 — turns forward at 10.2 degrees
- 23 Sept 2029 — turns back at 18.6 degrees
- 20 Feb 2030 — turns forward at 14.5 degrees
- 28 Sept 2030 — turns back at 22.9 degrees
- 25 Feb 2031 — turns forward at 18.8 degrees
- 3 Oct 2031 — turns back at 27.3 degrees
- 1 March 2032 — turns forward at 23.2 degrees
- 6 Oct 2032 — turns back at 1.7 degrees of Cancer
- 5 March 2033 — turns forward at 27.6 degrees
Notice the shape of that list. Each year the planet gains about four degrees and gives back about four. The net crawl is slow. That is the plain reason a theme of this kind unfolds over years, not weeks. A guide that promises a shock next Tuesday has not looked at the numbers.
Right now, Uranus is retrograde. It turned back on 10 September 2026 at 5.7 degrees of Gemini. It turns forward on 8 February 2027 at 1.7 degrees. Until then it gives back the ground it gained this spring.
Almost no one alive has Uranus in Gemini at birth
Here is the part no other page on Uranus in Gemini states plainly. I checked where Uranus stood at every hour from 1 January 1950 to 31 December 2009, the birth years of most adults alive today. It was in this sign at zero of those hours. Not a low number. Zero.
Here is the share of those sixty years that Uranus spent in each sign instead:
- Aquarius — 12.7 out of 100
- Capricorn — 12.0
- Sagittarius — 11.4
- Scorpio — 10.9
- Pisces — 10.9
- Virgo — 10.7
- Libra — 10.7
- Leo — 10.7
- Cancer — 10.0
- Gemini, Taurus and Aries — none at all
The reason is plain once you have the dates. The last visit ran from 7 Aug 1941 to 10 June 1949. So a birth chart with this placement belongs to a person born in that window. There are two short gaps in it. The planet dipped back into Taurus from 5 Oct 1941 to 15 May 1942, and it stepped ahead into Cancer from 30 Aug to 12 Nov 1948. These dates are in UTC, checked with Swiss Ephemeris and with the astronomy-engine library. In 2026 that group is 77 to 85 years old.
If you were born after June 1949 and a site told you that you have this placement, the reading is wrong. Or you are reading about the sky event, not your chart. That single mix-up drives most of the bad advice on this topic.
What the Uranus in Gemini generation carries
The Uranus in Gemini age group was born into a rupture in how humans handle words, signals and news. The 1941 to 1949 window covers a world war fought in part with radio, code work and mass rumour. The first machines we would now call computers were built in those same years. The people born then grew up as broadcast news reached almost each home in the West.
Move the placement forward a sign and the assignment changes shape: Uranus in Cancer puts disruption to work on emotional memory.
Robert Hand, in Planets in Transit, reads the far planets as marks of a shared shift, not as private quirks. Liz Greene, who works through depth psychology, holds that a planet of this kind shows up in one life only where it touches the close, private parts of a chart. A birth time matters here. A planet right on your Ascendant, the point rising on the sky line at your birth, reads in a way that no distant, quiet placement can match.
For the basics of the planet itself, our guide to the planet Uranus in your chart covers what it stands for in each sign.
Why Gemini changes what Uranus does
Each sign has a ruler, a planet that acts as its host. Gemini answers to Mercury, the planet of speech, writing, trade and short trips. So Uranus in Gemini puts the planet of sudden change inside the house of language.
Compare it with the sign we just left. In Taurus, hosted by Venus, the strain fell on money, land, food and hard value. Our piece on Uranus in Taurus traces that run from 2018 on. The shift now moves the same restless force from what we own to what we say.
Demetra George, a scholar of old texts, stresses that the sense of a planet bends to the sign it sits in, and to the planet that hosts that sign. Read that way, the theme points at machine speech, at news that splits into shards, and at fights over who is free to publish. It points at siblings, at those who live near you, and at short trips, since those are the older topics of this sign. If the sign itself is new to you, start with our guide to Gemini traits and personality.
A planet the old tradition never knew
Here is a point of honesty that most guides skip. The planet was found on 13 March 1781, by William Herschel. Before that night, no one knew it was there. Ptolemy did not have it. Vettius Valens did not have it. William Lilly, who wrote his great book in 1647, did not have it.
So each claim you read about Uranus in Gemini is modern. Chris Brennan, who works on the Greek and Roman roots of the craft, is strict on this line. The old texts run on seven bodies you can see with the eye. The three far ones came much later. All the lore we have here rests on about 240 years of watching, and most of it was set down in the last 100.
That does not make it worthless. It does mean the honest phrase is “since Herschel, astrologers have linked this planet to sudden breaks”, and never “the ancients taught”.
Uranus in Gemini for each sign: what really decides it
Search results promise a verdict for Taurus, for Scorpio, for the Gemini rising sign. The real answer rests on one thing: which room of your chart Gemini holds.
In the whole sign house system, the oldest layout, each room is exactly one sign. Your rising sign takes the first room, and the rest follow in order. Count from your rising sign to Gemini, and you have found the part of life this sky event stirs.
- Gemini rising — room one: your body, your name, how you show up.
- Taurus rising — room two: income and what you hold dear.
- Aries rising — room three: speech, siblings, local life.
- Pisces rising — room four: home and family roots.
- Aquarius rising — room five: children, romance, made things.
- Capricorn rising — room six: daily work and health.
- Sagittarius rising — room seven: partners and open rivals.
- Scorpio rising — room eight: shared money, debt, deep change.
- Libra rising — room nine: travel, study, belief.
- Virgo rising — room ten: career and public standing.
- Leo rising — room eleven: friends, groups, allies.
- Cancer rising — room twelve: rest, retreat, what is hidden.
Your Sun sign alone gives a rough version of this. Your rising sign gives the sharp one, and it needs your birth time. That is the honest reason a free horoscope by Sun sign stays so vague. It has to speak to twelve charts at once.
Uranus trine Pluto: the second signal in the same years
Uranus is not the only slow planet in an air sign. Pluto has been in Aquarius since 19 November 2024. Gemini and Aquarius sit four signs apart. That puts the two planets in a trine, an angle of 120 degrees. Ptolemy, in the second century, called the trine harmonious because it joins signs of one element. Both signs here are air.
The two planets loop past that angle five times. From my run, in UTC:
- 18 July 2026 — both at 4 degrees 29 minutes
- 29 November 2026 — both at 3 degrees 31 minutes
- 15 June 2027 — both at 6 degrees 52 minutes
- 13 January 2028 — both at 6 degrees 20 minutes
- 10 May 2028 — both at 8 degrees 49 minutes
The last Uranus–Pluto trine came in 1921 and 1922. So this is a first for everyone reading this page. Richard Tarnas, in Cosmos and Psyche (2006), followed the Uranus–Pluto pair through eras of fast change. His main cases are the hard angles, the 1960s meeting and the 1790s opposition. The trine is the easy angle of the same pair. If a point of your chart sits near 3 to 9 degrees of Gemini, Aquarius or Libra, these five dates touch you directly.
What to do with the Uranus in Gemini dates
Uranus rewards a plan more than a reaction. Three uses for the list above:
Mark the turns. The days the planet stops are the loudest. 8 Feb 2027 and 15 Sept 2027 are the next two. Note what shifts around them for two years, and you will learn your own pattern faster than any guide can teach it.
Watch the degree count. Uranus moves through Gemini at four degrees a year. If you have a planet at 8 degrees of Gemini, your turn comes near 2028, not now. A chart with exact degrees answers this in a few seconds.
Keep the two readings apart. If you were born from Aug 1941 to June 1949, outside those two gaps, you have both at once: the birth placement, and the sky event now back in your own sign. That pair is rare, and worth a full reading rather than a quick guess.
Frequently asked questions
When was the last time Uranus was in Gemini?
From 7 Aug 1941 to 10 June 1949, with a short return to Taurus from 5 Oct 1941 to 15 May 1942 and a short step into Cancer from 30 Aug to 12 Nov 1948, in UTC. Two separate ephemeris runs give those dates to the day.
Is Uranus in Gemini right now?
Yes. It came back on 26 April 2026 at 00:51 UTC and holds the sign until 3 Aug 2032, apart from a brief last pass in the winter of 2032.
Is Uranus retrograde right now?
Yes. It turned back on 10 September 2026 at 5.7 degrees of Gemini and turns forward on 8 February 2027 at 1.7 degrees.
When is Uranus trine Pluto?
Five exact hits: 18 July 2026, 29 November 2026, 15 June 2027, 13 January 2028 and 10 May 2028, with Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius.
How long does Uranus stay in Gemini?
2,576 days inside the sign, which is 7.05 years. The span from first entry to last exit is 7.87 years, since the planet steps out and back twice.
What does Uranus in Gemini mean in a birth chart?
It marks an age group born from 1941 to 1949, into a break in how we share news and speech. It shapes one life strongly only when it sits close to the Ascendant, the Sun, the Moon or the Midheaven.
Which sign feels the Uranus in Gemini transit most?
The signs at a hard angle to Gemini feel the friction first: Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, plus Gemini itself. Your rising sign sets the part of life, so a birth time changes the answer.
How fast does Uranus move through Gemini?
About four degrees of net forward gain per year, once the yearly backward loop is counted. It covers the full 30 degrees of a sign in a little over seven years.
Was Uranus in Gemini in 2025?
For four months, yes: from 7 July 2025 to 8 Nov 2025. Then it fell back into Taurus for the winter. The long stay began on 26 April 2026.
