Virgo Venus and Aquarius Venus Compatibility: Averse by Sign, With Five Suns Each and None Shared

Virgo Venus and Aquarius Venus compatibility is a pair the old books leave out in the cold. The two signs sit five apart. Ptolemy gave that gap no aspect and no other tie. He called such signs disjunct, which means turned away from each other. On top of that, Venus is in fall in Virgo, one of her weak spots, and has no major rank in Aquarius.

The sky adds a second fact. We ran Venus and the Sun from 1600 to 2400. Each Venus sign can only sit with five Sun signs. For this pair, the two lists of five never meet. So these partners are always born under different Suns, in different parts of the year. This page shows the numbers, the old rules, and where the picture softens once you look at real degrees.

One point first. Astrology is not a science. No study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple will do. Read this as a lens for talking about love, not as a forecast.

Venus in fall, Venus with no rank

Your Venus sign is the sign Venus was in when you were born. In astrology it shows what you find lovely and how you like to be loved. The tradition also ranks each sign for each planet. For Venus, the list is short.

Rank Signs for Venus Meaning.
Home, or domicile Taurus and Libra Venus rules the sign and acts in her own style.
Exaltation Pisces Venus is an honored guest.
Detriment, or exile Aries and Scorpio The signs across from her homes.
Fall Virgo The sign across from her exaltation.
No major rank The other five, Aquarius among them Venus is a plain visitor.

Fall in Virgo comes from the axis of exaltation. Virgo faces Pisces, where Venus is honored. The host of Virgo is Mercury, the planet of words and detail. Ptolemy also gives Mercury its exaltation in Virgo. So in Virgo, Venus is a guest in a house where Mercury is doubly strong. She loves through care, repair and small useful acts. Our page on Venus in Virgo explains why fall is not the same as detriment.

Aquarius belongs to Saturn in the old scheme. Venus has no major rank there. She only holds a small slice of the sign, called her terms, a few degrees where she has a minor say. Astrologers call a planet with no major rank peregrine, which means a wanderer. Modern writers link Aquarius with Uranus too, and read Venus there as cool, fair and fond of friends. Our page on Venus in Aquarius sets out both readings.

Neither rank is a verdict on a person. The old books say how easily Venus shows her nature in a sign. They do not say who can love well. A Venus in fall can still love deeply. It just does so in the accent of its host.

How common the pair is

Venus does not spend the same time in each sign. Over 800 years, the shares settle close to one in twelve.

Venus sign Share of time, 1600 to 2400 Rank among twelve.
Venus in Virgo 8.41 percent Fifth of twelve.
Venus in Aquarius 8.16 percent Tenth of twelve.
Even split 8.33 percent One sign in twelve.

Pick two people at random. The chance that one has Venus in Virgo and the other has Venus in Aquarius is 1.37 percent. That is about one couple in 73. It ranks 44th of the 78 Venus pairs. Among the twelve pairs five signs apart, it ranks ninth.

The gaps between pairs are small. Among pairs of two different signs, the most common and the rarest differ by only 14 percent. So this pair is ordinary in number. What sets it apart is its Suns and its place in Ptolemy.

Five Suns each, and none shared

Seen from Earth, Venus never strays far from the Sun. We measured the widest gap at 47.28 degrees. So each Venus sign can only sit with five Sun signs. Here they are for this pair, as a share of all people with that Venus.

Sun sign Share of Virgo Venus people Note.
Cancer 8.65 percent Venus far ahead of the Sun.
Leo 29.85 percent The largest group.
Virgo 23.66 percent Sun and Venus in one sign.
Libra 28.93 percent A close second.
Scorpio 8.91 percent Venus far behind the Sun.
Sun sign Share of Aquarius Venus people Note.
Sagittarius 9.66 percent Venus far ahead of the Sun.
Capricorn 28.48 percent A close second.
Aquarius 23.09 percent Sun and Venus in one sign.
Pisces 29.46 percent The largest group.
Aries 9.31 percent Venus far behind the Sun.

The Virgo Venus list runs from Cancer to Scorpio. The Aquarius Venus list runs from Sagittarius to Aries. No sign sits on both. So in every couple with this Venus pair, the two partners have different Sun signs. Of the 78 Venus pairs, 18 share this trait.

It shows up in the calendar too. With the usual Sun sign dates, the Virgo Venus crowd is born from late June to late November. The Aquarius Venus crowd is born from late November to late April. The two groups take turns through the year. And from late April to late June, while the Sun is in Taurus and Gemini, nobody is born with either Venus.

Which Sun pairs are most likely? Four combinations sit almost level.

Sun pair Share of these couples Reading.
Leo Sun and Pisces Sun 8.79 percent The top pair, by a hair.
Libra Sun and Pisces Sun 8.52 percent Close behind.
Leo Sun and Capricorn Sun 8.50 percent Close behind.
Libra Sun and Capricorn Sun 8.24 percent Close behind.

In each case, the Virgo Venus partner has the first Sun and the Aquarius Venus partner has the second. No single Sun pair covers even one couple in eleven. So the typical couple is a lean, not a rule.

One more figure stands out. In 41.28 percent of these couples, at least one partner has Venus in their own Sun sign: a Virgo Sun with a Virgo Venus, or an Aquarius Sun with an Aquarius Venus. That ranks 65th of 78, near the bottom. In 5.46 percent, both do. So for most couples with this Venus pair, the Sun layer tells a separate story. See Virgo and Aquarius compatibility by Sun sign for that layer.

Turned away: what Ptolemy says

Ptolemy wrote the Tetrabiblos in Alexandria around 150 AD. In Book I, chapter 13, he names four aspects: the opposition, the trine, the square and the sextile. Virgo and Aquarius are five signs apart, or 150 degrees. That gap makes none of them. Modern writers call it a quincunx. Ptolemy gave it no name.

He lists two more ties in the next chapters. Signs that command and obey sit the same distance from an equinox. Signs that behold each other sit the same distance from a solstice, so their days last the same length. In chapter 16, he calls signs with none of these ties disjunct. Later writers say averse.

Scholars read the command and behold rules in two ways. One goes sign by sign, as in the notes of Frank Robbins, who made the standard English version. The other goes degree by degree, as William Lilly did in Christian Astrology in 1647. For many pairs, the two readings disagree. Here they do not.

Tie Sign by sign Degree by degree.
Command and obey Virgo pairs with Scorpio, Aquarius with Gemini Virgo pairs with Libra, Aquarius with Taurus.
Behold Virgo pairs with Taurus, Aquarius with Sagittarius Virgo pairs with Aries, Aquarius with Scorpio.

So Virgo and Aquarius share no tie in either reading. They are fully disjunct on both readings. Lilly also read mirror points by degree as hidden links. For this pair, we found no couples with mirror Venuses at all, even at a 3 degree gap. The two Venuses never sit on each other’s mirror point.

The quincunx in real degrees

The sign picture is not the whole story. A sign is 30 degrees wide. So two Venuses five signs apart can sit anywhere from 120 to 180 degrees apart. How close are they to 150?

An orb is the slack an astrologer allows around an exact angle. We used the real spread of Venus inside each sign, in steps of a tenth of a degree.

Orb Couples near 150 degrees Reading.
3 degrees 18.98 percent A tight quincunx.
6 degrees 35.94 percent About one in three.
8 degrees 46.13 percent A common working orb.
10 degrees 55.43 percent A wide orb.

Here is the detail that changes the reading. At the edges of the signs, the gap can reach a real aspect. A Venus late in Virgo and a Venus early in Aquarius can sit about 120 degrees apart. That is a trine, an easy angle. A Venus early in Virgo and a Venus late in Aquarius can sit about 180 degrees apart. That is an opposition.

At an 8 degree orb, 7.21 percent of these couples have one of these links across the sign line. That is about one couple in 14. For them, the pair called turned away is linked after all, by degree. At a 10 degree orb, the share rises to 11.24 percent.

How the pair plays out

Read as symbols, the two Venuses speak different dialects of care. Virgo is earth and mutable, which means it closes a season and adjusts. Aquarius is air and fixed, which means it holds a season steady. Earth wants a task. Air wants an idea. Of all 78 Venus pairs, this is the only earth and air quincunx between a mutable sign and a fixed one.

The Virgo Venus shows love through help. It notices the loose button and sews it on. It keeps track of what the other person needs. The Aquarius Venus shows love through freedom and fair play. It gives space, treats a partner as a friend, and cares about the wider group.

  • The Virgo Venus can feel ignored when help goes unthanked.
  • The Aquarius Venus can feel crowded when care turns into checking.
  • Both think before they feel, and both like to talk things through.
  • Both value honesty over grand gestures.

A useful habit is to name what each act means. The Virgo partner can say, “I fixed this because I love you.” The Aquarius partner can say, “I gave you room because I trust you.” Once the meaning is out loud, the two dialects are easier to hear.

The rulers add a note. Mercury rules Virgo, and Saturn rules Aquarius in the old scheme. Mercury is quick and curious. Saturn is slow and firm. One partner likes to adjust the plan. The other likes to keep the rule.

Other layers and other pairs

Venus is one layer of a chart. The Moon shows emotional needs, and Virgo Moon and Aquarius Moon compatibility reads the same two signs through that layer.

Aquarius Venus reads very differently with other signs. With a Libra Venus, it forms an air trine with Venus at home, in Venus in Libra and Venus in Aquarius. Virgo Venus meets another weak Venus in Venus in Aries and Venus in Virgo compatibility, another pair five signs apart. For all twelve signs at once, see our Venus sign compatibility guide.

What the evidence says

The largest test of sign matches used the 2001 census of England and Wales. The sociologist David Voas looked at 10.3 million married couples. He found no effect of Sun signs on who marries whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors in the data. His paper, “Ten million marriages,” came out in 2007. It tested Sun signs. No test of that size exists for Venus signs.

So a pair called turned away is not a warning about a couple. This page gives the sky behind the label, and the old rules in their own words.

How we measured

We used two methods that share no code. The first used the Astronomy Engine library. It found each time Venus and the Sun entered a sign from 1600 to 2400, to a tenth of a second, and added up the time. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris. It checked the sign of Venus every hour, on a grid set half an hour off the first. That is more than seven million points. Neither drew random numbers. On the Venus figures, they agree within 0.01 points.

A long window matters. Venus repeats its path about every eight years, and a short span tilts the count. The couple figures assume two people born at unrelated moments. The degree shares use the real spread of Venus inside each sign. All values use the tropical zodiac, seen from Earth. The Ptolemy readings follow the Loeb edition by Frank Robbins, Book I, chapters 13 to 16.

Frequently asked questions

Are Virgo Venus and Aquarius Venus compatible?

The tradition calls signs five apart turned away, and Venus is in fall in Virgo. But about one couple in 14 has a trine or opposition by degree across the sign line. No study shows that Venus signs predict how a couple does.

How common is a Virgo Venus and Aquarius Venus couple?

About one couple in 73, or 1.37 percent, over 1600 to 2400. It ranks 44th of the 78 Venus pairs.

Can a Virgo Venus and an Aquarius Venus share a Sun sign?

No. A Virgo Venus goes with Suns from Cancer to Scorpio. An Aquarius Venus goes with Suns from Sagittarius to Aries. The two lists never meet.

What Sun signs are most likely in this couple?

A Leo or Libra Sun with the Virgo Venus, and a Pisces or Capricorn Sun with the Aquarius Venus. Each of these four pairs covers a bit more than 8 percent of couples.

No. They form no aspect, and they neither command nor behold each other, in either the sign or the degree reading. Ptolemy calls such signs disjunct.
