Neptune crossed into Aries for good on 26 January 2026, at 17:35 UTC. That was 12:35 in New York. It stays there until 23 March 2039. I worked out both dates myself, checked them against NASA’s JPL Horizons, and I show the method at the end.
Here is the part almost no page says plainly. If you came looking for Neptune in Aries in your own birth chart, you almost surely do not have it. Only the youngest babies do. They are the first people born with it since 1875. The ones born before them, up to April 1875, are all gone.
So for almost every reader, this is not a birth chart trait. It is a sky event, happening now, over everyone’s head at once. For children born since March 2025, it is a birth trait. That difference shapes the whole article.
The exact dates for Neptune in Aries
A planet does not slide into a sign once and settle. It steps in, backs out, then steps in again. Astrologers call the moment of crossing an ingress: the exact instant a planet leaves one sign and enters the next.
Here is the full run, to the minute, in UTC. New York clocks read four hours earlier in summer and five in winter:
- 30 March 2025, 11:58 — Neptune first enters Aries.
- 22 October 2025, 09:49 — it slips back into Pisces.
- 26 January 2026, 17:35 — it enters Aries and stays.
- 22 May 2038, 00:13 — first crossing into Taurus.
- 21 October 2038, 12:25 — back into Aries one last time.
- 23 March 2039, 20:36 — Neptune leaves Aries for 160 years.
Why the back-and-forth? Because of retrograde motion. Planets never truly reverse. From where we stand on Earth, our own orbit makes them look like they drift backwards for a few months each year. Neptune does this for about five months out of twelve.
That is why 2025 and 2026 both count as start dates, and why writers argue about which one is real. Both are real. The first is a preview. The second is the lasting one.
Neptune has just left Pisces, its home sign, after fourteen years. If you want the sign it came from, read our guide to Neptune in Pisces. Everything born from 2011 to 2025 carries that older mood.
Why almost nobody alive has this in a birth chart
Your natal chart is a map of the sky at your birth minute. The planets are frozen where they stood. Neptune moves so slowly that its sign is shared by everyone born within about fourteen years of you.
I measured that speed rather than quoting it. Over five full orbits, from 1600 to 2424, Neptune covers 1,811.9 degrees of the zodiac wheel. The wheel is 360 degrees. That works out to one full lap every 163.7 years, and 13.64 years per sign.
Before 2025, Neptune was last in Aries from 13 April 1861 to 7 April 1875. A baby born on the final day would be 151 today. So from 1875 to March 2025, nobody was born with it.
I checked this the blunt way. I looked up Neptune’s sign every 15 minutes from 1950 to 2010, about 2.1 million checks, with no random draw. Here is the share of that time spent in each sign:
- Sagittarius: 23.23 percent
- Capricorn: 23.13 percent
- Scorpio: 23.00 percent
- Aquarius: 19.43 percent
- Libra: 11.21 percent
- Aries: 0 percent
Five signs, and only five, across sixty years of births. Zero in Aries. That is not a small number. It is nothing at all.
The first babies to carry it since 1875 were born from 30 March to 22 October 2025. Then came a gap of three months, with Neptune back in Pisces. Every baby born since 26 January 2026 has it too. They will be the Neptune in Aries generation, the way people born in the 1960s carry Neptune in Scorpio.
Neptune was found in 1846, so the old books are silent
This point gets skipped, and it matters. Neptune is not visible to the naked eye. The German astronomer Johann Galle first spotted it on 23 September 1846, from Berlin. My own run puts Neptune at 25.9 degrees of Aquarius that night.
Everything written before that date knows nothing of Neptune. Ptolemy did not know it. Nor did the Greek writer Vettius Valens. Nor did William Lilly, who wrote Christian Astrology in London in 1647. Classical astrology runs on seven bodies: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn. That is the whole set.
So when someone quotes “ancient wisdom” about Neptune, be careful. There is none. Every meaning attached to this planet was invented in the last 180 years. Chris Brennan makes the same point in Hellenistic Astrology: the outer planets sit outside the system the old texts were built on.
That is not a flaw. It is honest ground. Robert Hand, Liz Greene and Demetra George all built Neptune’s meaning from watching it, not from inheriting it. For a wider look at how the planet is read, see our guide to the planet Neptune.
1861: the last time, and what the dates line up with
Neptune entered Aries on 13 April 1861, at 20:27 UTC. The American Civil War began on 12 April 1861, when guns opened on Fort Sumter.
One day apart. I did not pick that date to fit the story. It fell out of the calculation.
The run before that was 1697 to 1712, which held the end of the wars of Louis XIV. And the fourteen years from 1861 to 1875 held the war itself, the end of slavery in the United States, Italy becoming one country, and Germany becoming one country.
Read that with care. Astrology is not a science, and I will not dress it up as one. A single match proves nothing. What the dates do show is the flavour astrologers assign to Aries: a hard, fast start, fought for rather than agreed. Liz Greene reads Neptune as the pull of a shared dream. Put a shared dream in the sign of the fighter and you get people willing to die for an idea.
The generation that followed the Aries run was born with Neptune in Taurus, where the same idealism settles on material security.
That is a reading, not a law. Hold it loosely.
Saturn met Neptune in Aries on 20 February 2026
Two planets can reach the same spot on the zodiac wheel. That is a conjunction, and it is the strongest link two planets can form.
Saturn and Neptune met at 0.75 degrees of Aries on 20 February 2026, at 16:54 UTC. The first degree of Aries is the start of the whole wheel. It is the most loaded spot on the circle.
Saturn arrived first, on 14 February 2026 at 00:12 UTC, which was the evening of 13 February in New York. It holds Aries until 13 April 2028. So the two planets share the sign for two years. Our guide to Saturn in Aries covers that side.
Why does the pairing matter? Because the two planets want opposite things. Saturn builds walls, sets limits and asks for proof. Neptune softens edges and asks for faith. Robert Hand describes their meeting as the moment a dream is forced to show its papers.
Their last meeting was in Capricorn in 1989. The one before that was in Libra in 1952-1953.
Where Neptune stands right now
As I write, in September 2026, Neptune is moving backwards through early Aries. Here are the turning points I calculated:
- 7 July 2026 — Neptune turns retrograde at 4.42 degrees of Aries.
- 12 December 2026 — it turns forward again at 1.61 degrees.
- 9 July 2027 — retrograde again, at 6.66 degrees.
- 15 December 2027 — forward again, at 3.85 degrees.
Notice how little ground it covers. In two full years Neptune walks about three degrees of a 360 degree wheel. This is a planet you feel as weather, not as an event.
What Aries does to Neptune
Every sign colours the planet in it. Neptune spent fourteen years in Pisces, which it rules, and the fit was easy. Water, blur, drift, empathy, escape.
Aries is the opposite fabric. It is fire, and it is the first sign. Its ruler is Mars. Aries starts things, alone, without asking.
Put the planet of dreams into the sign of the self and the dream turns personal. Modern astrologers read the shift like this:
- The shared story fades. Your own story takes over.
- Faith stops being quiet. It gets acted on.
- The blur moves from the world to the mirror. The question is who you are.
- Anger and hope get mixed up, and are hard to tell apart.
Demetra George is worth reading here on how the first sign works. Aries has no past. It carries no memory and no debt. A planet in Aries acts before it thinks, and finds out what it meant afterwards.
The risk with Neptune is the one it always carries: a beautiful idea with nothing solid under it. In Aries that idea comes wrapped in courage, which makes it harder to question. Saturn in the same sign is the useful brake.
How this lands on your own chart
Unless you were born in 2025 or later, you do not have Neptune in Aries at birth. What you have is Neptune walking through one room of your chart right now.
Think of your chart as a house with twelve rooms. Each room covers one part of life: money, work, love, home. Astrologers call these houses. Under the whole sign system, the oldest one, each room is exactly one sign.
So the room Neptune has moved into depends on your rising sign, the sign coming up over the horizon at your birth. A quick guide:
- Aries rising: first room. Self, body, the face you show.
- Taurus rising: twelfth room. Sleep, hidden things, what you hide from yourself.
- Gemini rising: eleventh room. Friends, groups, hopes.
- Cancer rising: tenth room. Work, standing, what you are known for.
- Leo rising: ninth room. Belief, travel, study.
- Virgo rising: eighth room. Shared money, debt, loss.
- Libra rising: seventh room. Partners, in love and in work.
- Scorpio rising: sixth room. Health, daily work, routine.
- Sagittarius rising: fifth room. Children, art, romance.
- Capricorn rising: fourth room. Home, family, roots.
- Aquarius rising: third room. Speech, writing, siblings.
- Pisces rising: second room. Money you earn, and what you value.
One warning about that list. It uses whole sign houses, and it is a starting point, not a reading. A second system called Placidus splits the rooms by unequal size, and it will hand some readers a different room. Neither system is wrong. They answer slightly different questions, and astrologers have argued about them for centuries.
You need your birth time for this. A birth time that is off by two hours will hand you the wrong room. That is the single most common error in reading your own chart.
How I worked out these dates
Anyone can copy dates from another site. Here is how mine were built, so you can check them.
I used the astronomy-engine library, which is based on the VSOP87 planet model, the same maths used for spacecraft work. For each date I asked for Neptune’s position as seen from Earth, in the tropical zodiac. Tropical means the wheel starts at the spring equinox, not at a star.
Then I scanned one day at a time from 1600 to 2100 and marked every sign change. For each change I narrowed the window by halving it, sixty times over, until the crossing was fixed to the minute.
I then checked every date from 1861 to 2039 against NASA’s JPL Horizons service, and I print its times. Near 0 degrees of Aries the two disagreed by up to three hours, because Neptune crawls there.
Two honest limits. First, the library is built for the years 1700 to 2200, so my 1697 date is an extrapolation and could be off by days. The 1861 and 1875 dates sit inside the safe window. Second, the rounding to the minute is far finer than astrology needs.
Questions people ask
When did Neptune enter Aries?
On 30 March 2025 at 11:58 UTC it entered for the first time, then went back to Pisces on 22 October 2025 at 09:49 UTC. The lasting entry was 26 January 2026 at 17:35 UTC.
When was the last time Neptune was in Aries?
From 13 April 1861 to 7 April 1875, with a short return to Pisces between 1 October 1861 and 14 February 1862 (UTC).
Can I have Neptune in Aries in my birth chart?
Yes, if you were born from 30 March to 22 October 2025, or on or after 26 January 2026. Those babies are the first born with it since 1875. Everyone born from April 1875 to March 2025 has Neptune in another sign.
How long does Neptune stay in one sign?
13.64 years on average, from my own measurement over five full orbits, 1600 to 2424. One full lap of the zodiac takes 163.7 years.
When does Neptune leave Aries?
It first crosses into Taurus on 22 May 2038 (UTC), returns to Aries on 21 October 2038, and leaves for good on 23 March 2039.
Did the Civil War start under Neptune in Aries?
The dates sit one day apart. Fort Sumter was fired on 12 April 1861; Neptune entered Aries on 13 April 1861. One match is a coincidence until it is one of many, and astrology is not a science.
What to do with this
Three things are worth holding on to.
One: Neptune in Aries is a transit, not a birth trait, for every reader born before 2025. Only babies born since 30 March 2025 have it natally. Any page that hands an adult a personality profile for it is selling something that does not fit.
Two: it started on 26 January 2026 and runs to 23 March 2039. That is a fourteen year weather front, not a mood that passes in a week.
Three: what it touches in your life depends on your rising sign and your birth time. Without those, the transit is a headline with no address.
If you want the room it has moved into, and the years it will sit there, a full natal chart reading will place it exactly.
