Black Moon Lilith in the 2nd house is read as a fight over worth. The 2nd house covers what you own, what you earn, and the price you put on yourself. Lilith there is said to mark the part of you that will not be bought.
Before the reading, one plain fact. Your odds of having this placement are not the same for everyone. Across all charts, it is one in twelve. But your Lilith sign pushes that figure up or down, from about one in nineteen to about one in ten. This page shows the numbers, how we got them, and why hospital birth hours do not change the total.
First, which Lilith are you reading?
Black Moon Lilith is not a planet or a rock. It is the far point of the Moon’s oval path around Earth. Astronomers call that far point the apogee. It is a spot in empty sky, worked out with math.
Two versions of that spot are in daily use. Mean Lilith is a smooth average that moves at one steady pace. True Lilith is the real far point at your exact minute of birth. It speeds up, stalls, and runs backward. Our full guide to Black Moon Lilith covers both in depth.
The two versions land in different signs on about 36 percent of days. So check which one your chart tool uses before you read on. Most tools default to mean Lilith.
| Version of Black Moon Lilith | How it moves through the zodiac |
|---|---|
| Mean Lilith, the smooth one | One steady pace, about nine months in each sign. |
| True Lilith, the exact one | Speeds up, stalls, and runs backward on more than half of days. |
The house comes from the clock, not the calendar
Mean Lilith spends about nine months in each sign. It takes 8.85 years to go all the way round. So everyone born in the same week shares a Lilith sign. Classmates born in the same season share it too.
The house is a different story. A house is one of twelve slices of the sky, fixed by the place and the minute you were born. The sky turns once a day. Every point in it, Lilith included, passes through all twelve houses in 24 hours.
That means the date sets your Lilith sign, and the clock sets your Lilith house. Two babies born on the same day in the same town can have Lilith in two different houses. A few hours apart is enough.
Here is what a 2nd-house Lilith looks like in the sky. At your birth, Lilith was below the eastern horizon. It had not risen yet. It would rise a few hours later. For a birth in New York, the gap runs from about one and a half to five hours, as the table in the next section shows.
This is why the hour matters so much. Our tests for Lilith in the third house found that a noon chart, used when no birth time is given, puts Lilith in the wrong house 91.25 percent of the time. The same trap applies here.
Hospital hours do not change the total
US births are not spread evenly over the day. Planned C-sections peak at 8 a.m. Induced births pile up from noon to 5 p.m. Nights are quiet. We used the CDC natality file for 2024, which logs the clock time of 3,638,436 US births.
For planets tied to the Sun, like Mercury and Venus, those hours shift the odds a lot. Lilith is not tied to the Sun. It moves on its own slow loop. So the question is simple: do hospital hours change how many people have Lilith in the 2nd house?
They do not. Here is what we measured for mean Lilith.
| Birth hours used in the test | House method | Share of births with mean Lilith in the 2nd house |
|---|---|---|
| Every minute of the day equally likely | Placidus houses | 8.33 percent of births. |
| Real US birth hours, CDC 2024 | Placidus houses | 8.32 percent of births. |
| Every minute of the day equally likely | Whole sign houses | 8.33 percent of births. |
| Real US birth hours, CDC 2024 | Whole sign houses | 8.33 percent of births. |
One in twelve is 8.33 percent. Every row sits on it. The reason is plain. Hospital hours are fixed to the Sun, and the Sun moves round the whole sky in a year. Over many years, the 8 a.m. births meet Lilith at every angle. The bias washes out.
Your Lilith sign sets the odds
Now the part no other page shows. The total is one in twelve. But the odds for you depend on your Lilith sign.
Why? Signs do not cross the horizon at the same speed. Seen from the United States, some signs rise in about an hour and a quarter. Others take close to two and a half hours. The longer a slice of sky takes to pass, the more births land in it.
Take a 2nd-house Lilith under whole sign houses. Your 2nd house is the sign right after your rising sign. So Lilith in Taurus sits in your 2nd house only if Aries was rising. Aries rises fast in the US, so few births get it.
Here are the odds, sign by sign, for a birth somewhere in the United States. Each figure is the share of the day that puts Lilith in your 2nd house, for that Lilith sign.
| Your Lilith sign | Odds of a 2nd house Lilith, whole sign houses | Odds of a 2nd house Lilith, Placidus houses |
|---|---|---|
| Aries | 5.2 percent | 7.9 percent of births. |
| Taurus | 5.2 percent | 7.1 percent of births. |
| Gemini | 6.2 percent | 6.6 percent of births. |
| Cancer | 8.1 percent | 6.6 percent of births. |
| Leo | 9.8 percent | 7.1 percent of births. |
| Virgo | 10.4 percent | 7.9 percent of births. |
| Libra | 10.3 percent | 8.8 percent of births. |
| Scorpio | 10.3 percent | 9.5 percent of births. |
| Sagittarius | 10.4 percent | 10.1 percent of births. |
| Capricorn | 9.8 percent | 10.1 percent of births. |
| Aquarius | 8.1 percent | 9.5 percent of births. |
| Pisces | 6.2 percent | 8.8 percent of births. |
Read it this way. With whole sign houses, a Lilith in Aries or Taurus lands in the 2nd house about one time in nineteen. A Lilith in Virgo or Sagittarius does so about one time in ten. That is twice the odds, from the sign alone.
Placidus gives a different shape. Its low point is Gemini and Cancer, at about one in fifteen. Its high point is Sagittarius and Capricorn, at about one in ten. The two methods agree on the high end and split on the low end.
Mean Lilith entered Capricorn in mid-September 2026 and stays until June 2027, as our main Lilith guide dates it. A US baby born in that window has close to a one in ten chance of a 2nd-house Lilith under either method.
Why Placidus draws a different curve
Placidus is the house method most US chart sites use. It splits the time each point spends above and below the horizon into equal thirds. Whole sign houses, the method of the Greek astrologers, make each house exactly one sign wide.
Under Placidus, the 2nd house covers one third of the time a point spends below the horizon, on the way up. Points in Capricorn sit low in the US sky. They spend more of the day below the horizon, so they spend more time in the 2nd house. Points in Cancer ride high. They spend less time below, and less time in the 2nd house.
That also sets the wait before Lilith rises. For a New York birth, the table below gives the window.
| Lilith at the start of this sign | Lilith rises this long after a 2nd-house birth, New York, Placidus |
|---|---|
| Cancer, riding high | About 1.5 to 3 hours later. |
| Aries, on the middle line | About 2 to 4 hours later. |
| Capricorn, riding low | About 2.5 to 5 hours later. |
Neither method is wrong. They answer the question in two ways. If your chart tool lets you pick, try both and note where Lilith lands.
Do mean and true Lilith share your 2nd house?
Now stack the two problems. Say you know your birth time. Your chart puts mean Lilith in the 2nd house. What are the odds true Lilith is there too?
We measured it both ways.
| House method | Charts with mean Lilith in the 2nd house that also have true Lilith there |
|---|---|
| Whole sign houses | 63.7 percent of them. |
| Placidus houses | 64.1 percent of them. |
So about 64 readers in 100 keep their 2nd-house Lilith when they switch versions. The rest lose it. That is the same share our pages on the third and tenth houses found for their own rooms.
Under whole sign houses there is a neat reason for this. Each house is one sign, so the two Liliths share a house only when they share a sign. The sign split, about 36 percent, becomes the house split. With real US birth hours the figures barely move: 63.5 percent for whole signs and 63.9 percent for Placidus.
Across all charts, both versions sit in the 2nd house in 5.3 percent of births. Just one of them does in about 6 percent. If you are in that second group, read both rooms and see which one you know.
How we got these numbers
A number you cannot check is worth nothing. So here is the method.
We took Lilith’s place from the Swiss Ephemeris, the code most chart software runs on, in its built-in Moshier mode. Mean Lilith is its mean apogee. True Lilith is its osculating apogee, the far point of the exact oval the Moon rides at that instant.
Our window runs from 11 June 1940 to 2 December 2028. That is exactly ten full laps of mean Lilith, from one entry into Aries to the tenth after it. A window with a part lap left over would favor some signs.
We scanned every day in that window. Each day got 96 birth times, one every 15 minutes, on the local clock of the day, daylight time included. Each day also got 16 US places, taken in turn from a list of 303 points weighted by where Americans live. That makes about 49 million charts.
We weighted each birth time two ways. First, every minute equal. Second, by the real share of births in that 15-minute slot, for that month and weekday, from the CDC 2024 file.
Then we checked it by a second route. We drew 1,200,000 charts at random, with a fixed seed, and let the Swiss Ephemeris build the house cusps itself. In the charts with mean Lilith in the 2nd house, true Lilith sat there too in 64.4 percent under Placidus and 63.8 percent under whole signs. That is within a quarter of a point of the main scan. The sign-by-sign table comes from an exact formula for each house window, which we checked against the software at New York to within 0.01 of a point.
The twelve house shares in the main scan sat between 8.33 and 8.34 percent for mean Lilith. They add to 100 percent. That flat line is the sign the scan is clean.
What the 2nd house holds
Picture your chart as a house with twelve rooms. Each room is one area of life. The planets are the furniture. The 2nd room is your storeroom: what you own, what you can trade, what keeps you going.
The Greek astrologers gave this room a dark name. Vettius Valens, in his Anthologies of the 2nd century, calls it the Gate of Hades. The reason is sight. In the old system, the 2nd house cannot see the 1st house, the room of the self. It is the room you own and cannot look into.
William Lilly, in Christian Astrology of 1647, read the same room in plain terms: goods, money lent, and things you can move. Modern writers added worth and values. Our guide to the 2nd house and its role in your chart lays out all three layers.
What Lilith in the 2nd house is said to mean
Put the far point of the Moon in the storeroom, and the image is clear. The part of you that refuses to be tamed is filed under worth.
Take the dates seriously. This reading is young. Demetra George set out the modern Lilith picture in the 1980s, in her work on the dark side of the Moon. Delphine Jay wrote one of the first full Lilith manuals in the same years. The myth of Lilith is old. The chart reading is about fifty years old.
Within that reading, astrologers use a small set of themes for this room.
| Area of 2nd-house life | How the Lilith reading describes it |
|---|---|
| Self-worth | A price set by you, not by others, and hard to talk down. |
| Money | A charged subject, where rules from home get tested. |
| Things you own | Held tight, or given up to prove a point. |
| The body and the senses | Pleasure you were taught to hide, then claimed back. |
| Values | A short list of things you will not sell at any price. |
A few things this reading does not say. It does not predict wealth or loss. It does not say you will earn more or less than anyone else. It describes a feeling about worth, not a bank balance.
The shadow side, in the usual account, is shame about need. Some people with this placement will not ask for help, even when they should. Others use money or care as a tool of control. The growth side is a calm, clear sense of worth that does not need anyone to sign off on it.
Ways to work with it
Some parts of the older version of this page still hold up. They are simple habits, not rules from the stars.
- Once a month, list what you truly value, and check that your time and spending match it.
- Ask yourself: what do I refuse to trade for approval? Write the answer down.
- Practice one calm sentence for hard talks: “I can’t accept that, but I can offer this.”
- If money brings real stress, talk to a financial planner. A chart is not a budget.
The rooms next door
The room before this one shows the same refusal on the surface, and Black Moon Lilith in the first house covers how it shows in the body and first looks. The room after it turns the charge into speech, which our guide to Lilith in the third house covers.
Taurus is the sign most at home with 2nd-house themes. Our page on Black Moon Lilith in Taurus reads that pairing. Note the odds above, though. A Taurus Lilith lands in the 2nd house less than most, under both methods.
For a slower, heavier guest in the same room, see Saturn in the 2nd house. It found the same shape we did: Aries and Taurus sit at the bottom of the whole-sign count.
Frequently asked questions
What does Lilith in the 2nd house mean?
It is read as a fight over worth. The usual picture is a person who sets their own price, refuses to be bought, and carries a charge around money, things, and pleasure.
How common is Lilith in the 2nd house?
One chart in twelve, or 8.33 percent. That holds with real US birth hours from the CDC 2024 file, under Placidus and whole sign houses.
Does my Lilith sign change the odds?
Yes. Under whole sign houses, a Lilith in Aries or Taurus lands in the 2nd house about 5.2 percent of the time for a US birth. A Lilith in Virgo or Sagittarius does so about 10.4 percent of the time.
Why do I need my birth time for Lilith’s house?
Lilith keeps one sign for about nine months, but it passes through all twelve houses every day. The date gives the sign. Only the time and place give the house.
Do mean and true Lilith put me in the same house?
Not always. Of charts with mean Lilith in the 2nd house, 63.7 percent also have true Lilith there under whole sign houses, and 64.1 percent under Placidus.
Does Lilith in the 2nd house mean money problems?
No. The reading describes how you feel about worth, not what you earn. It makes no forecast about income, debt, or wealth.
Which Lilith should I use?
Mean Lilith is the default in most software and in most published readings. If your tool offers both, check both and note whether they agree.
Read your own Lilith, with your own birth time
This page gave you the odds. Your chart gives you the answer. An Astrovision reading takes your birth date, hour, and place, works out both versions of Lilith, and tells you where each one lands. You get it as a written guide and as a podcast you can listen to anywhere.
